Wellness is about more than just preventing illness—it’s about helping
our pets live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives! 🐶🐱🐴🐮🐐
This year’s focus highlights five key areas of animal welfare:
🏡 Environment – A safe, comfortable place to live
🥕 Diet – Proper nutrition and fresh water
❤️ Health – Preventive care, regular exams & vaccines
🐾 Behavior – Opportunities to express natural behaviors
🤎 Companionship – Positive relationships with people and other animals
🐾 How can you participate?
Use October as a reminder to check in on your animal’s overall well-being! ❤️
✔️ Schedule a wellness exam if they’re due
✔️ Make sure vaccines and parasite prevention are up to date
✔️ Take a look at their diet and body condition
✔️ Give them opportunities for exercise, enrichment, and natural behaviors
✔️ Spend some extra quality time together! 🥰
Whether you have a dog, cat, horse, cow, goat, or another beloved
animal, their overall well-being matters every day—not just when

🐾 World Rabies Day | September 28, 2026 🐾
Rabies is rare, preventable, and almost always fatal once symptoms
appear—which makes prevention so important. ❤️
🧐 Rabies: Fact or Myth?
❌ MYTH: Indoor pets don’t need a rabies vaccine.
✅ FACT: Even indoor cats can encounter bats or other wildlife. Keeping
pets vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect them—and your
family.
❌ MYTH: Only wild animals can carry rabies.
✅ FACT: Any mammal can become infected. In Oregon, bats are the most
common source of rabies.
❌ MYTH: A bite is the only way rabies spreads.
✅ FACT: Rabies can be transmitted through saliva from an infected
animal entering broken skin or mucous membranes.
🛡️ Protect yourself & your pets
🐶🐱 Keep rabies vaccinations current
🦇 Never handle bats or sick/injured wildlife
🚫 Keep children and pets away from wild animals
🏡 Secure areas where bats can enter your home
👀 Teach children not to approach unfamiliar animals
🦷 If you or your pet is bitten
For people: Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water and seek
medical attention promptly. Report the bite to your local public
health authority.
For pets: Contact your veterinarian and local animal services/public
health authority right away. Don't handle or release a bat if there
may have been contact with a person or pet—local authorities can help
determine whether testing is needed.
📍 Local Resource — Washington County, Oregon
For animal bites or possible rabies exposure, call Washington County
Disease Control & Prevention: 503-846-3594. They provide guidance for
both human and pet exposures.
👉 Rabies prevention starts with vaccination, awareness, and knowing
what to do before an exposure happens. Talk with our team about
keeping your pets protected. 🐾💙

🐰🌎 Happy International Rabbit Day! 🌎🐰

Today we’re celebrating the bunny magic that makes rabbits such incredible companions! 💕 From their curious little noses and giant personalities to their adorable zoomies and happy binkies, rabbits bring so much joy into our lives.

But International Rabbit Day is also a reminder that rabbits are more than Easter gifts or cute photos. They are intelligent, social animals who deserve lifelong care, enrichment, companionship, and a safe, loving home.

🐇 Adopt. Educate. Advocate.

Help us celebrate rabbits today by learning more about their needs, supporting rabbit rescues, and reminding others that these amazing animals deserve a lifetime of love - not a temporary commitment.

Here’s to every bunny - big, small, sassy, shy, floppy-eared, and full of personality. Happy International Rabbit Day! 🐰💚
