Animals canโ€™t tell us when they hurt, but they can show usโ€”and knowing
what to look for matters. โค๏ธ

Watch for changes such as:

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Dogs & Cats:
โ€ข Limping, stiffness, or trouble getting up
โ€ข Hiding or acting unusually quiet
โ€ข Changes in appetite
โ€ข Restlessness or trouble getting comfortable
โ€ข Excessive licking or chewing
โ€ข Reluctance to jump, play, or use stairs

๐Ÿด๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ‘ Large Animals:
โ€ข Changes in movement or gait
โ€ข Decreased appetite or activity
โ€ข Reluctance to walk, lie down, or get up
โ€ข Isolation from the herd
โ€ข Changes in posture or behavior

Even subtle changes can be signs of pain. You know your animal best,

Harley came to see us for lameness, so we did some X-rays, got him started on pain medication, and sent him home to rest. ๐Ÿฉป๐Ÿ’Š

But apparently, none of that was nearly as important as THIS TREAT. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ–

Thereโ€™s nothing better than watching your pup splash in the waves and zoom across the sand - but a little beach smarts keeps everyone safe!

๐ŸŠ Swimming: Even strong swimmers can get tired, overwhelmed by waves, or injured by rocks and shells. Give your pup plenty of breaks.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Skip the salt water: Drinking too much seawater can cause vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and dangerous salt poisoning. Bring plenty of fresh water!

๐Ÿ‘‚ Rinse after swimming: Salt, sand, bacteria, and algae can irritate ears and skin, so a quick freshwater rinse is a great idea.

๐Ÿฆ€ Respect wildlife: Curious noses and wildlife donโ€™t always mix!

๐Ÿ• Know your recall: If your dog has a ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž recall and off-leash dogs are allowed, enjoy! If โ€œcomeโ€ means โ€œmaybe later!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚, use a leash or long line.

And remember, not everyone or every dog wants a surprise greeting. Give others space, follow beach rules, and keep an eye on your four-legged adventurer.

Vaccines are one of the best ways to protect animals from serious, and sometimes life-threatening, diseases.
๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Core Vaccines are recommended for nearly all pets because they protect against common, severe diseases:
โ€ข Dogs: Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, and Rabies
โ€ข Cats: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia, and Rabies
๐Ÿพ Non-Core Vaccines are recommended based on your pet's lifestyle and risk factors:
โ€ข Dogs: Bordetella (kennel cough), Leptospirosis, Lyme disease, and Canine Influenza
โ€ข Cats: Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and others based on exposure risk

Today, Banks Veterinary Service is celebrating the amazing blind and visually impaired dogs who remind us that life is about so much more than sight. With a little support, blind dogs can live happy, active, and fulfilling lives!

Common causes of vision loss in dogs include:
๐Ÿพ Cataracts
๐Ÿพ Glaucoma
๐Ÿพ Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA)
๐Ÿพ Diabetes-related eye changes
๐Ÿพ Age-related degeneration or injury

Tips for caring for a blind dog:
โค๏ธ Keep furniture and food/water bowls in the same place.
โค๏ธ Use verbal cues and a consistent routine.
โค๏ธ Block off hazards like stairs, pools, or sharp corners.
โค๏ธ Introduce new environments slowly and use scent or sound cues to help your dog navigate.
