Meet Zeus, Your Future Best Friend!

Zeus is a 3-year-old Bernedoodle looking for a forever home that understands him and will give him the patience, consistency, and love he deserves.

This sweet boy has a softer side that shines through with the women he trusts. He can be reactive and fearful around men, so he needs an experienced adopter who understands canine reactivity and is prepared to continue working with him through positive reinforcement, appropriate boundaries, and patient introductions. Because of his reactivity, Zeus is not a fit for a home with children.

The good news? Zeus does great with dogs of all sizes! Cats, however, are not his cup of tea.

Zeus is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and has been treated for his ear infection. He’s ready to find his person and settle into a home where he can feel safe, build trust, and be loved for who he is.

Zeus may need a little extra understanding, but he has plenty of sweetness to give to the people he trusts. He’s looking for someone who will see his potential and give him the chance to thrive.

Meet Zeus! Looking for his forever home.

Zeus is a big-hearted, high-energy boy who LOVES his people and has plenty of personality to go around. He’s an enthusiastic greeter who may try to hug you when you walk through the door, so he’s looking for a family ready to help him work on his manners and channel that excitement in the right direction.

Zeus will thrive with a family who can provide structure, consistency, exercise, and continued training. He can be fearful around men and needs patient introductions to help him build confidence. He also needs a family who understands dog body language and will respect his boundaries as he settles in.

He has previously lived dogs of various sizes, but proper introductions and compatibility with other pets are important. He is not good with cats so please no kitty homes! Zeus is still working on getting back to a healthy weight and is receiving care for ongoing ear issues.

We know Zeus has so much potential. He needs someone willing to see beyond his big energy and help him become the best version of himself.

It’s always a risk taking in owner surrenders, and many times they will lie or hide the state of the pet and we get hit with surprises.

Poor Zeus, the 3 year old bernoodle, came in and it was discovered he had a terrible ear infection that was neglected and is 5-8 pounds lighter than where he should be. We quickly got him into a vet to ease his pain and had an unexpected expense hit our books. We refuse to become one of those rescues that racks up thousands dollars in debt and pay our bills at the time of service as the vet clinics deserve and could use the help of the community to help recover some of our medical fund for upcoming spay and neuters we have scheduled.

On top of that, Zeus has nipped at (no contact) the vets and his current foster parents, likely due to the immense pain he is in, and is now in need of an experienced foster or foster to adopt that is willing to work with him while he goes through his vetting. He is dog friendly, potty trained, and just needs a space to decompress while he heals. He has his neuter appointment in Fort Worth on 10/14 so foster or adopter will need to be local to the area.

Zeus is settling in after a rough night. After being surrendered, he is left confused on where his family went and is suffering from an ear infection. He is headed to a vet this for treatment and is scheduled for his neuter in a couple of weeks. Any amount towards his care will help tremendously and would be so so appreciated. 🥹

ONE DAY. ALMOST 100 SIGNATURES.

We launched our Texas Animal Shelter Accountability Act petition yesterday, and we’re already nearly at 100 signatures.

That’s incredible to us.

We’re a small rural rescue, but this issue isn’t just about Heart of Texas Animal Rescue. It’s about what we believe should be the minimum standard for animals across our entire state.

We’ve heard the concerns about rural counties having limited funding.

We understand.

But here’s where we stand:

Basic humane care should never depend on a county’s population or budget.

If a community needs additional funding, resources, training, or time to meet basic shelter standards, then let’s address that.

But the answer shouldn’t be lower standards for the animals.

Clean housing. Sanitation. Safety. Veterinary oversight. Humane treatment.

Those should be the floor. Everywhere in Texas.

We’re almost at 100 signatures after just 24 hours.
