Don has been volunteering and fundraising for 6 YEARS!! For those keeping track, Don was only 8 years old when he first started this fundraiser 🥹. Our Plant Sale is TOMORROW, JUNE 13th, and the donations of plants have started rolling in. We've got annuals, perennials, and TONS of beautiful house plants. They'll all be available by donation tomorrow, June 13th from 10am-1pm at the shelter. While most plants will be "choose your donation", there will be a handful with a minimum donation. Huge thanks to New Sprague's Nursery & Garden Center, Blue Seal Farm & Home - Bangor, ME, Moore Manor Lavender, Winterport Woman's Club GFWC, and Lowe's Home Improvement in Bangor for donating a few truly beautiful plants to our fundraiser.

WHOOPIES FOR WHISKERS will be joining us with pumpkin chocolate chip and traditional whoopies, and ice cold lemonade! 🍪🍋

Parking will be across the street in the parking lot of Heart of Maine United Way--thank you, friends!

Tomorrow is drop-off day! If you've got plants, we're ready to accept them for our sale! The staging area is set, our hose is primed, and we're mostly sure we can keep them alive for 24 hours before the sale begins (hey, we specialize in caring for animals, not plants 😆). Perennials, annuals, seedlings, fruits or veggies, and even house plants! Bring 'em over and we'll sell them on Saturday for a donation to the shelter. Make beauty, help pets. Boomshakalaka.

This is the last week of our Kirby's Kickstarter Fundraiser and we could really use your help earning the full $5,000 match! Donate now and for every $25.00 donation, we'll add your pet's name to the honor placard that will hang in our lobby for the next year. There's still room for your pet's name!

🌱Our plant sale is coming up next Saturday and we can use your plants! If you're out doing yardwork this weekend, please bag up or pot anything you might be cutting back (we're looking at you hostas, lilies, loosestrife, tickseed, dahlias, bleeding hearts, hens & chicks, etc., etc.) bring them to us! Too many annuals? We'll take 'em! Seedlings you can't use (tomatoes, peppers, squash, zucchini)? Yup, we want 'em.

Bring them to the shelter on Friday, June 12th and we'll sell them by donation on Saturday, June 13th--all proceeds will benefit the animals of BHS!!

A few tips from our friends at the Master Gardener program at UMaine Cooperative Extension of Penobscot County:

🧐Inspect your plants closely for pests before deciding to share.
🫧Sterilize your gardening tools and use clean or sterilized pots.
💨The less time they spend out of the soil, the happier they'll be.
🚿If you are able, rinse your roots and add fresh potting soil.

It’s Feel Good Friday and today did not disappoint! A huge thanks to Quirk Subaru for selecting Bangor Humane Society and our friends at the Bangor Symphony Orchestra as the recipients of Share the Love funds for 2026! A portion of all sales and leases of new Subarus were earmarked for donation between November 2025 and January 2026. Today, Quirk presented us with a check for $11,000 to support the care of animals at the shelter. Nothing good-er than knowing our furry friends are cared for. Thank you, Team Quirk!

We're having a plant sale and you're invited!! 🌱

Join us on Saturday, June 13th, 10am-1pm, rain or shine! We'll be offering perennials, annuals, and house plants for sale by donation. Our friends "Whoopies for Whiskers" will also be joining us with their delicious homemade whoopie pies (the pumpkin chocolate chip sell out fast, so get here early!).

The best part? All the proceeds will benefit the animals of the Bangor Humane Society. Is there anything better about home than plants and pets? We don't think so. 😍
