Baltimore Against Animal Abusers

Baltimore Against Animal Abusers We are Baltimore City residents concerned about the systemic and horrific animal abuse in our city. We need your voice. The abusers are seldom held accountable.

We are urging city officials and leadership to drive change and ensure animal abusers are held accountable—investigated and prosecuted. Our city’s animals continue to endure horrific neglect and abuse—we see the stories every day—and our city turns a blind eye. It’s imperative that we protect vulnerable animals and demand action from our city leadership. Animal abuse is systemic and must be taken

seriously. Please contact our mayor and city council members to urge them to take decisive and meaningful action against abusers. Contact Information:
1. Mayor Brandon Scott ([email protected])
2. City Council President Zeke Cohen ([email protected])
3. Your City Councilperson (https://www.baltimorecitycouncil.com/)
4. State’s Attorney for Baltimore City Ivan Bates ([email protected])

Ask them to please:
1. Prioritize investigating and prosecuting animal abuse crimes
2. Revive the City’s Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission. Together, we can create a safer, more compassionate city. Your voice matters and equals VOLUME! Sample letters below for your convenience. Please encourage your friends and family to share this post. Thank you for speaking up for animals.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sample letters below. Dear Mayor Scott,
I am writing to express my concern over the lack of prosecution of animal abuse cases in our City. I urge you, with the City Council, to consider and address the obstacles that are preventing the investigation and prosecution of these cases. The Office of Animal Control, the Baltimore Police Department, and the City State's Attorney’s Office need the funding and support necessary to accomplish this. These crimes must be investigated, and those responsible are prosecuted. Additionally, I want to express my concern that the Mayor’s Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission has been inactive for the past four years. I implore you to act on your Commission and empower it to continue the important work that it was set up to accomplish. As a vocal supporter of BARCS and animal welfare in your City, I know that the safety of its most vulnerable inhabitants is important to you. And it is important to me as your voting constituent. Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Bates,
I am writing to express my concern over the lack of prosecution of animal abuse cases in our City. I urge you, with the Mayor and City Council, to consider and address the obstacles that are preventing prosecution of these cases. Animal abuse is a serious, systemic, and grotesque crime that is often connected to human abuse. Our City depends on you to follow through with prosecution on these investigations. Sincerely,

A judge in the United States sentenced a Georgia man to 475 years in prison after he was convicted on dozens of charges linked to dog fighting and extreme animal cruelty, making it one of the harshest sentences ever handed down in an animal abuse case. Investigators rescued more than 100 dogs from the property, where many were reportedly found chained, neglected, and living in horrific conditions.

Prosecutors said the case exposed years of organized cruelty and exploit@tion. Animal protection organizations have welcomed the sentence as a landmark victory for animal justice, calling it a powerful message that extreme c*ruelty will carry serious consequences and that those who exploit animals for profit will be held accountable.

Supporters say the ruling reflects a growing demand for stronger penalties in animal abuse cases, and many hope it sets a precedent for future prosecutions.

Delta, now Dottie, will only know kindness for the rest of her days. Thank you for rescuing her, loving her, healing her and carving a brighter tomorrow for this precious girl.

We still insist that those responsible for such horrific abuse are held accountable to the fullest extend of the law. There is no pass for you.

It is hard to find the words to explain abuse to a child.

The truth is, I do not have words for what was done to this little girl. I do not know how to explain to my little one that someone watched her grow thinner, weaker and more wounded, and still did nothing to help her. When I cannot make sense of it myself, how am I supposed to make sense of it to a 7-year-old?

So instead, we focus on what our job is.

I tell him, “this is where we come in.”

This is where we slow down. Where we notice. Where we do not look away because suffering is painful or uncomfortable to witness. This is where we gently place our hands on a broken little body and begin showing her that the world can be kind.

I am teaching him that our job is to nurture her. To nurse her back to health. To protect her while she heals. To be patient with the places that hurt and tender with the parts of her that are still learning she is safe.

I am doing my best to raise a little guardian.

Not because I want him to carry the weight of everything cruel in this world, but because I hope he never walks past suffering and convinces himself it belongs to someone else.

I want him to notice the ones who have been overlooked. To understand that the vulnerable are not an inconvenience. That compassion is not simply something we feel. It is something we must choose to do.

Somewhere along the way, she found her name. We realized Delta never quite fit this tiny, gentle soul. It felt too strong, too bold for the little girl curled up in our laps asking so quietly to be loved. So we’ve decided to call her Dottie.

Sweet little Dottie 🩷

Today Dottie visited Middletown Veterinary Hospital, and she did so well. She was showered with more love than I can describe. Every person who met her seemed to instinctively understand just how much she has endured. Thank you to the incredible staff for making her feel so safe, and to the always fabulous Dr. Galloway for taking such good care of our sweet girl.

She is going to be okay.

We are going to help her body heal. We are going to teach her that hands can be gentle, homes can be safe and people can stay. And while we may never have the words to explain what happened before she came to us, we will spend every day showing her what happens now.

Thank you to every single person who has donated, shared her story, sent encouraging words or simply held her in your heart. Dottie is wrapped in the love of an entire community and we are so thankful.

She has been noticed.

She has been chosen.

She will never be overlooked again.

Baltimore City has revived its anti-animal abuse commission with broad representation and some ardent animal advocates.

Your voice, calls and letters helped spur this positive shift from the city. We are hopeful for real systemic change. This is a first step. Let’s make sure it helps make a meaningful difference for our city’s animals and support this commission’s work.

The commission is tasked with advising agencies, increasing awareness of animal cruelty laws, and training law enforcement and animal control officers.
