Laila has really brightened our week with a super success story. We were approached by Laila's owner about a soft tissue sarcoma (STS) on her front right leg. It was pretty large (~5x2.5 cm), and surgery to remove it is usually not curative and $$$. We were excited to try cryoablation with the Kubanda Cryotherapy's device (aka high tech tumor freezing with a device designed for vet med)! Previously, we have only treated dogs that had failed surgery, which is so much more difficult. Since surgery is seldom curative, Laila's only other option was extreme - amputation! The cryoablation treatment went great, but we worried about one small piece of skin that looked like it might have gotten too cold and would slough. Well it did, but Laila's owner was great at caring for her weeks. At some point, we had given up on the skin closing, and recommended surgery. But luckily her owner didn't give up and now her leg looks with only a small scar. We have our fingers crossed that the treatment was curative, but cosmetically the final results look great.

Zeke is almost 900 days post experimental radiation and chemotherapy for his presumed brain tumor (aka glioma). He takes advantage of not wearing an invisible fence collar to escape to the other side of the yard from the rest of the dogs in his pack. His brain is definitely doing overtime. Stay cool Zeke. We have just submitted a renewal grant and hope to be able to treat more dogs like Zeke soon. Wish us luck.

We are just thrilled that Penny, who has metastatic osteosarcoma, is continuing to do well almost 80 days after treatment with a radiopharmaceutical therapy targeted to osteosarcoma. We are looking for other dogs that have failed conventional amputation and chemotherapy for treatment at Center for Image-Guided Animal Therapy. We are so happy that Penny could enjoy this lovely sunny day and appreciate her owners allowed her to participate in our trial. Each day is a gift. Meet Luna, the first dog in our osteosarcoma clinical trial for dogs with metastatic bone cancer (spread beyond the primary tumor). Luna had amputation and chemotherapy at The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center, for osteosarcoma but, unfortunately, developed spread to her lungs. Luna, a 5-year old St. Bernard, was treated with a special radiotherapy called, "Actinium-225-Naxitamab" given in a vein at CIGAT. She came into CIGAT for her one-week checkup on Monday. This radiotherapy has a monoclonal antibody that binds to osteosarcoma to deliver powerful doses of radiation directly to tumor cells. Fingers crossed that it will work!

Cassin is a sweet Greyhound/Irish Wolfhound/Mastiff mix that is undergoing amputation for her presumed osteosarcoma today after being treated with immunotherapy as part of a clinical trial at CIGAT. We want to thank Canine Cancer Alliance for helping defray part of the cost of amputation at VRC Malvern. Lovely story about Darby the Boston Terrier, who was in our chemo-radiation therapy brain tumor trial. She has achieved the highest level in the American Kennel Club dog agility. Kudos. Just love getting pictures like this of Lyra who is living her life over 2 years after her original osteosarcoma diagnosis. Dogs who participate in our clinical trials become life long friends for us.
