Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, BARCS is able to provide medical care to hundreds of animals each year through the Franky Fund. A key part of this effort is our partnerships with local veterinary hospitals and clinics. We are deeply grateful for these partnerships, which help save the lives of thousands of homeless shelter animals in need of emergency and specialized medical care.
This week, we’re sending a heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at Anne Arundel Veterinary Hospital. Their care has made a real difference for countless BARCS animals, including Liberty Belle, who received urgent treatment—all made possible by the incredible generosity of our Franky Fund supporters.
Sweet Liberty Belle came to BARCS after being found alone and in need of shelter and medical care. During her initial veterinary evaluation, our team noticed that she was not bearing weight on her front right leg. Despite being in pain, Liberty Belle remained sweet and friendly, happily accepting pets from the veterinary team. X-rays revealed a displaced humeral fracture with small bone fragments at the fracture site. She was facing either repair or amputation surgery, and that’s when the decision was made to send Liberty Belle to one of our amazing Franky Fund partners for a specialist evaluation and surgery, with the goal of relieving her ongoing pain and giving her the best chance at a comfortable, happy life.
Once in the care of the AAVH team, sweet Liberty Belle was a wonderful patient. After further evaluation, the team determined that amputation was the best course of action, and her surgery was successful. Once she was stable and ready to return to BARCS, Liberty Belle said goodbye to the AAVH team and came back to the shelter with a post-op treatment plan to continue healing while she waited for a loving home of her own.
And not only did Liberty Belle heal beautifully, but her sweet, charming personality continued to win over everyone she met. It wasn’t long before she caught the eye of the right person, and today, Liberty Belle is officially adopted! Happy Tail, sweet girl!
Thank you to Anne Arundel Veterinary Hospital for all of the love and care you give to the BARCS animals who come through your doors!
We would not be able to do what we do without them—and without YOU, our Franky Fund donors. This program relies completely on private donations. Please help us always be ready to save animals like Liberty Belle by giving to our Franky Fund.
