A few months ago we were contacted by a conservation group who had a problem. They needed to be able to identify wild parrots solely by the leg band colors and their combinations. Red band on the left leg, blue on the right, etc. The problem? They were running out of possible combinations. They wanted to know if we could make bands with two different colors.
When we asked local anodizing shops for a quote they all refused. The order quantities were too low and masking on such small items was going to be a massive pain. We decided to try a small in-house anodization setup. The professionals warned us: this is going to drive you crazy.
Several months of experimenting, failing and learning later and we are finally producing two-tone leg bands that we can be proud of. We are going to continue to hone our process but for now we at least have a practical solution to that conservation group's problem. A nearly infinite number of color combinations through stripes, dots, and more. An easy way to identify individual birds without needing to catch them.
I'm not sure when we will put similar bands up for sale on our website, but if you're interested please reach out to us. We can do nearly any size of band we sell.
