Today I met with my Client Mike and his awesome Belgian Malinois, Anika! Mike works from home and has been doing training with Anika throughout the day. What Mike needed help with today was to be properly educated about corrections; When to do them and How to do them safely and effectively. Mike already has a solid understanding of shaping behaviors through positive reinforcement, which as we all know, that will only get you so far, especially with a Malinois. Through my methods of training, corrections are NOT used as a form of punishment, but as a way to bridge the gap between vocal and physical communication.

Let your dogs be dogs! Sometimes you may get carried away with training or setting high expectations for your dog. It is very important to allow your dog plenty of time to have fun and relax!

Here’s a little clip of a training session with Gracie! today we worked on shaping the down command. As you can see in the video, do this, all you need to do is lure the dog into the position with a treat, and then immediately mark and reward once the dog is in the position!

Here is one of my clients waking his 3 dogs at the same time. Taking one dog on a walk was a nightmare for him just a couple months ago, but look at them now! So proud of them!

It is very important to socialize and desensitize your dog on a regular basis. Even if you dog is not a service dog in training like Bear, you can get tremendous benefits from taking your dog to a dog friendly store regularly.
