Now for pharmaceuticals!!!
The CDC has officially said no to further monkey experiments, offering hope for around 200 macaques who could be spared from continued laboratory research and given a chance at a safer future.
In November 2025, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention directed researchers to phase out studies involving nonhuman primates by the end of that year. The decision affected approximately 200 macaques housed at the agency's facilities in Atlanta.
Monkeys are intelligent, social animals who can experience stress and distress in laboratory environments. They have complex needs that can be difficult to meet when they are confined and used for scientific experiments.
Reports in 2026 described plans to transfer more than 160 macaques to a primate sanctuary in Texas, where they could receive long-term care away from research laboratories.
These monkeys deserve more than an end to experiments. They deserve a safe place to live, proper care, and the chance to spend the rest of their lives without being subjected to further research.
