Baldwin Park Shelter

Baldwin Park Shelter We are the friends of the Baldwin Park Shelter. The Baldwin Park Shelter is open for adoptions and rescues seven days a week, Yes. Sadly, No. YES!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Will the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter allow me to foster? Unless you are a shelter approved foster who has completed the county's foster training class sadly, the answer is def0initively "no".

2. Does Baldwin Park require I come into the shelter to adopt? The Baldwin Park Shelter requires all adopters to come into the shelter. This is because the shelter want

s to make sure the pet and you are compatible. However, if you are out of state and can find a 501(c)3 rescue who is an adoption partner of the Los Angeles County shelter system (DACC) who is willing to take liability for the pet you wish to adopt and find a way of getting the pet to you, they will be able to pull the pet for you.

3. Does the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter ship animals? No, Baldwin Park neither has the budget nor the manpower to ship animals.

4. Is the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter a "no kill" shelter. The shelter does not want to euthanize any pets - but unfortunately the shelter's intakes far exceed the adoptions and the shelter only has 192 dog kennels.

5. Can you help and if so how? If you are local you can come volunteer at the shelter, or at the shelter's Mobile Pet Adoption events. If you are not able to come to the shelter you can help network the shelter's pets. If you would like to become a volunteer please fill out an application which you can either pick up at the shelter or download on line from the Los Angeles County Department of Animal "Care" and Control's Website. We recommend that you send your volunteer application to the shelter directly, because the person handling the volunteer program at DACC headquarters somehow loses a great deal of applications.

This is merely the tip of the iceberg. We are sorry to report - as long as the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors allow current Director, Marcia Mayeda, who earns $378,000 per year of taxpayer money, to mismanage the Department of Animal "Care" and Control into the ground, this will continue to happen again and again and again.

Two supervisors said that a county employee "erroneously authorized the euthanasia" and ordered an investigation into the incident.

Congratulations to David Goldstein of Channel 2 exposing the lack of leadership and supervision at Los Angeles County's Department of Animal Control. Marcia Mayeda the head of Animal Control makes over $378,000 a year in salary and yet the pets suffer and often die at Baldwin Park

Multiple Los Angeles County Animal Control employees were caught on duty sleeping like a baby or lifting weights in the gym – all while not lifting a finger for taxpayers.

If you ever wonder why the Baldwin Park Shelter and all of the Los Angeles County Shelters are short on staff and provide inadequate care - look at the attached contract they just signed to build a $729.380 fence around Baldwin Park's Building 4. This fence would cost any private individual less than $5,000 to build. Pets suffer and die - while government officials get rich. http://file.lacounty.gov/SDSInter/bos/supdocs/123882.pdf

The Friends of the Baldwin Park Shelter are pleased to announce the forever departure of shelter manager Sheri Koenig - who has been assigned to twiddle her thumbs and spend the rest of her soon to be over employment at the Pat "Google Me" Claerbout memorial desk at DACC headquarters. Goldilocks will never (mis)manage a shelter again!. One hopes that this will lead to a more humane, rescue friendly shelter!

Wings of Rescue is a 501(c)3 charity that flies at-risk pets from shelters and disaster areas to safe havens.

Baldwin Park has a tremendous selection of cats and kittens for adoption at all times due to the shelter serving several economically and educationally challenged communities where spay/neuter laws often do not apply to cats. During kitten season it is not unusual for the shelter to receive seventy kittens in a day and the shelter has only 100 cat kennels and the shelter's feline kill rate is over 75 percent. The pictures contained in this album are only a small representation of the amazing cats available for adoption at the Baldwin Park 'Shelter.' Please check the website www.animalcare.lacounty.gov to see the full list of adoptable cats.

The Friends of the Baldwin Park Shelter are pleased to announce that Bailey has been adopted!!!

Bailey is a Hallmark card cute five month old white and tan male Chihuahua puppy who was found without either a collar with attached identification tags or a microchip in West Covina on May 9th and brought to the Baldwin Park Shelter. Weighing eight pounds and likely to grow to fifteen pounds, Bailey has a medium puppy energy level, and seems to understand the concept of walking on leash. He has all the attributes that endear puppies to everyone - he is kissy, playful and mischievous. He is good with other dogs and we think he will be great with kids. Bailey is a marvelous lapdog and indoor pet for any individual or family.
