These are the dogs that are still here from being brought in on 6/11 - 6/15. Not pictured are some that have been returned to owner or that have already left with a rescue organization. This means that some of the dogs below are no longer on a stray hold and are available for adoption.

If you know your dog is here or you think your dog may be here, please come to the shelter as soon as possible to be escorted through the kennels and identify your missing pet.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm for Return to Owner Transactions, with adoptions closing at 3:30.

We got a last minute, pleasant surprise yesterday when we were notified that we could send out some of our dogs on a flight with Wings of Rescue this morning. We are so thankful to report, 11 more dogs got to leave the shelter.

This transport included dogs from Tulare animal Shelter as well. We weren’t sure they would all fit but as usual they got it done. They made it safely to their destination where they will continue on their journey to their forever homes.

Thanks so much to everyone that made this happen 👏

Watch Gypsy on her few minutes of fame with Studio 17 Live She is only 4 months old and eager to learn and be loved. She enjoys affection and has a kennel mate that she gets along with.

Gypsy is blind in her injured eye but has full vision in her other eye. She is such a sweetheart that acts exactly like a puppy with no limitations. She does not understand the leash and doesn’t know any commands yet. We’re thankful she made it to the shelter after being hit by a car so that our medical staff could treat her and now we want her to make it out safely into a forever home.

We think she is a German Pinscher mix. She is tall and weighs 13 lbs. Her expected adult weight would be 30 to 45 lbs. Gypsy

🙌 38 dogs left the shelter on transport Friday and arrived safely in Canada with BARC's Rescue yesterday. They each got to go home with a foster family.

🤗 We are so grateful for these dogs to go because some of them were our longest residents at the shelter and we didn’t know how else they would make it out. We’re very thankful to our local fosters that cared for them in the meantime.

👏 Big thanks to Ryan Cunningham for driving and caring for the crew as they made their way to Montana, and Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue for the use of the Mutt Movers bus.

These are the dogs from the adoption event today that did not get adopted. They will be available when we are back open on Tuesday at 10am.

You can see videos of the 3 big dogs in our stories today, they will be up for 24 hours and then you can watch them at Friends Of Bakersfield Animal Care Center

These dogs have passed assessments with other dogs or are puppies that are kenneled with their littermates. They are each spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

Bruno here for He is available for adoption or rescue. He has learned a lot so far in the month that he has been in foster.

First off, he’s in foster with a small dog and Bruno is 80 lbs. He is fully potty trained, knows sit and paw and they’re in the process of kennel training him.

He’s 2 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Bruno is a dog that also has great recall when playing ball. Videos will be in the comments.

These are most of the dogs brought in 6/9 & 6/10. This does not include cats or animals without pictures. Always check the website first if possible.

We try to get these posts out as often as we can because they have helped to get dogs out of the shelter and back into their homes.

We appreciate owners coming for their missing pets to redeem them, that is our main goal. Please make arrangements to come identify your dog or cat during business hours.

Open 10am to 4pm Tuesday through Saturday, with adoptions closing at 3:30.

Gypsy is our with Studio 17 Live
She was brought in by animal control with several injuries including a deep laceration to her eye. Our medical team suspects that she had been hit by a car. She is available for adoption or rescue now that she is healed up.

She is blind in the injured eye but has full vision in her other eye. She is such a sweetheart that acts exactly like a puppy with no limitations. She does not understand the leash and doesn’t know any commands yet. Gypsy is only 4 months old and eager to learn and be loved. She enjoys affection and has a kennel mate that she gets along with.

We think she is a German Pinscher mix. She is tall and weighs 13 lbs. Her expected adult weight would be 30 to 45 lbs. We’re thankful she made it here safe and sound and now we want her to make it out safely into a forever home.

💥Now is the time💥FREE dog tags and FREE microchips all month long for Bakersfield City residents. You do not have to be adopting a dog, and your dog or dogs do not have to be previously adopted from this shelter.

Just come to the shelter during business hours to have your contact information and your dog’s name etched onto their very own dog tag at no charge. If your dog needs to be microchipped we will do that as well.

We are hoping to help for the upcoming holiday. The 5th of July is typically the highest day of intake for our City’s Animal Control/Shelter, along with the week and weekend of 4th of July.

Please make sure if your dog is already microchipped, that the chip is registered with your correct address and phone number.
