And as we discharge our last patient, it is through tear filled eyes and a heavy heart that we say goodbye and thank you.

It has been a pleasure and an honor in caring for the sick and injured pets of Kern County - especially the ones who needed it the most.

Though this isn't goodbye forever, we can't say when we might be able to open our doors again. But as soon as we have a new full time doctor, you'll be the first to know.

URGENT REQUEST
The Air Conditioning unit at our hospital has gone out and needs to have a replacement unit come in. Our property management estimates it taking 1-2 weeks for delivery and installation. Without AC our building will get too hot for the kitties and we will be forced to cancel all appointments until it's resolved.

We can run temporarily on portable AC units until then, but every store seems to be out of them. Would anyone be willing to loan us one or two so we can keep our hospital running until the end of this month as scheduled?

If you have a unit that we can borrow or know of someone who would be able to temporarily aide us, please let us know in the comments below. Thank you and Save the Kitties 🐈

It is truly difficult to post this but it's time to announce publicly that as of September 1st we will be saying goodbye to our Goodcat Doctor, Carly Titanich. Dr. Carly has made the difficult choice to move back home to Canada to be closer to family and we are so grateful for the few years that she has helped us save sooo many kitties.
With this news, unless we miraculously find a full time doctor before then, Goodcat Veterinary Hospital will be closing it's doors mid August.
We are working to find a doctor to save the hospital but we still have not found anyone willing to take this on. Please know that we are aware that this will impact our community and we are doing everything we can to ensure MeowCo will survive this transition, but be patient as it will take us some time to rebuild.
If anyone knows any Veterinarians and would be willing to join a nonprofit please reach out asap.

Little Sesame doesn’t need any help eating from her foster Nurse Brianda anymore 🥲 after two syringe feedings she said, “I got this, worry bout yourself.” She definitely has s***k in her spirit and her not being able to see does not hold her back. She is eating, pooping, playing and sleeping like any other kitten. We’re so glad to see her doing things all on her own, she is an independent kitten meow!

While working closely with other pet health care professionals at Goodcat, you'll have the chance to advocate for cats and educate clients on all aspects of pet health. Job Description Summary: The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists the veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care.

Preferred Education/Licenses: Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preferred Experience: Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.

A Day in the Life of a Goodcat Veterinary Assistant

The Vet Assistant provides professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, making sure that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital. You will use your technical skills on a daily basis, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties. Other responsibilities include:
• Helping maintain the flow of patients
• Communicating with the veterinarian and vet techs
• Carrying out or setting up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance
• Adhering to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and the treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean and organized
• Mentoring other members of the hospital team
