Can you hear me?
Several breeds have a high possibility of having deafness when they are born. Congenital deafness is prevalent in Boston terriers, Australian cattle dogs, dalmatians, Dogo argentino, cocker spaniel, American hairless terrier, parsons terrier, russell terrier, oddeye and some hairless cats, Australian shepherds, and border collie just to name a few of the top ranking breeds with deafness in their genetics.
Code of ethics breeders follow a health testing protocol that the orthopedic Foundation of Animals has set as a guideline to what to test each breed for according to what the breed tends to entail. Each breed has diseases that can be tested for through a DNA 🧬 test. Deafness can be tested as soon as 35 days old in a puppy. Responsible breeders will do hearing testing on their litter of puppies prior to selling them. Usually it is due to the breed being at risk for this issue, and they want to know what they are producing in their breeding program. Which puppy to keep, which one not to breed, and or more information for their puppy buyer.
If you need hearing testing done on your litter or on any of your possible breeding candidates, reach out.
