Jake
Male, 2 years, 55 pounds

Jake has developed a common canine cold, also known as an upper respiratory infection, and that is putting him at extreme risk in the shelter environment. We have a rescue interested in helping him, but we desperately need a foster to make that happen.

Jake is one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet. He is gentle, polite, and incredibly kind-hearted. While the shelter has been overwhelming for him, he handles it with quiet grace.

When we walked him through the kennels, Jake remained calm and collected despite all the barking dogs around him. Once outside, he was so happy to be away from the noise and chaos. It was clear how much he appreciated the chance to simply relax and enjoy some peace.

Jake is looking for a quiet home where he can decompress and feel safe. He has a calm, easygoing personality and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal couch potato and best friend.

He doesn't need much, just a chance.

A foster could save his life and allow rescue placement to move forward. An adopter could give him the forever home he deserves.

Alastor
Neutered Male, 2 years, 74 pounds

Alastor needs help.

He has been at the shelter for over a month, and time is running out.

Our volunteer, , has worked hard networking him, taking photos and videos, and sharing his story, but despite all of those efforts, Alastor still does not have a solid plan to leave the shelter. With dogs continuing to arrive in large numbers every day, he urgently needs an adopter, foster, or rescue to step forward.

Alastor is a big, handsome boy with an even bigger heart. Unfortunately, he doesn't always make the best first impression from inside his kennel. He can be vocal when some members of the public walk by, but that is not who he truly is.

Once you get to know him, you'll find a friendly, social dog who enjoys treats and likes being around people. He also does well with other dogs and has shown that he can be a wonderful companion.

The shelter environment is stressful, especially for dogs who have been waiting as long as Alastor has. He deserves the chance to show people the dog he really is outside of a kennel.

If you can't adopt, fostering can be lifesaving. Even a temporary home could buy Alastor the time he needs to find his forever family.

Skylar
Spayed Female, 1.5 years, 60 pounds

This sweet face is Skylar.

She originally came to the shelter as a puppy and was adopted from this very shelter a little over a year ago. Recently, she found herself back at KCAS when her owners surrendered her due to moving.

Despite everything she has been through, Skylar remains as sweet as they come.

She is affectionate, gentle, and eager for human companionship. The shelter environment has been confusing and unfair for a young dog who already thought she had found her forever home, yet she continues to greet people with kindness and trust.

Skylar deserves more than another kennel. She deserves a family that will love her for the rest of her life and never let her wonder where she belongs again.

Her second chance was granted on Tuesday. Now she just needs someone willing to give her a first-class forever home.

Our Adoptable Dogs Are Hitting the Town Today and This Weekend!

Looking to meet your new best friend? Our pups are heading out for a weekend of offsite adoption events!

📍 TODAY: Canine Creek in Tehachapi, 11am-3pm
📍 Saturday: Sparkling Image Car Wash on H Street, 9am-1pm
📍 Sunday: Petsmart on Calloway, 12pm-3pm

These special events give some of our most overlooked dogs a chance to shine outside the shelter. Many of them have been waiting patiently for their forever homes for no fault of their own! This is their moment to stand out!

Offsite events are a great way to connect in a more relaxed setting, where you can spend time getting to know a smaller group of carefully selected, highly adoptable dogs.

Make plans to meet them! Fall in love! Take home your new best friend!

His owner passed away ): But Brutus has so much love to give!

Brutus
Male, 5+ years, 59 pounds

He's a silly, playful, friendly, adorable, chonky boy. Meet Brutus.

Sadly, Brutus came to the shelter after losing his person. Now this sweet boy is looking for a new family to love him and give him the happy future he deserves.
Brutus is such a joyful dog. He absolutely loves treats and will hop around with excitement when he sees one coming his way. He walks well on leash, is friendly around other dogs, and always seems ready to brighten someone's day with his goofy personality.

When it's mealtime, Brutus gets so excited that staff use a puzzle bowl to help slow him down while he eats. He clearly enjoys life's simple pleasures and approaches each day with enthusiasm.

Brutus has already experienced a heartbreaking loss. Now he needs someone willing to step in and give him the love, stability, and companionship he once knew.

If you're looking for a loyal friend with a big personality and an even bigger heart, please consider meeting Brutus. This happy-go-lucky boy would make a wonderful addition to a lucky family.
