For many ball pythons, approximately 10–15% of body weight is commonly used as a starting reference. The 20–25% column shows a substantially larger meal for comparison—not a universal recommendation.

🐭 TIP TUESDAY: SUPPORTING PREGNANT & NURSING MOMS

Pregnancy and lactation place extra nutritional demands on female mice and rats—especially when they’re raising large litters.

A quality, complete rodent diet should remain the foundation. During late pregnancy and nursing, moms also need:

✅ Constant access to fresh water
✅ Enough protein and calories
✅ Essential fats for concentrated energy
✅ Properly balanced calcium and phosphorus
✅ Clean bedding and a low-stress nesting area

Lactating rats may consume several times more energy than usual, so check food and water frequently. Extra calcium should not be added blindly—too much can disrupt the mineral balance. A properly formulated breeder diet is safer than guessing with supplements.

Healthy moms help raise strong, thriving litters.
