Charlie, a beautiful 3-year-old chocolate Lab mix, is the latest Pet Palace Pet of the Week and is still waiting for her forever home at the Bakersfield Animal Care Center.

Tara Nelson with the Bakersfield Animal Care Center introduced viewers to Charlie, who weighs approximately 57 pounds and has been at the shelter for nearly 30 days. Charlie arrived already spayed and microchipped, but despite having an owner, no one has come forward to reclaim her.

Charlie has noticeable scarring along one side of her body. Shelter staff say medical testing came back negative for anything contagious, and the scarring does not require medical treatment. While they aren’t sure what caused it, some of the hair appears to be growing back, although the scars may remain noticeable for some time.

Nelson says Charlie is still getting comfortable with new people and can be a little unsure at first. She may have bursts of energy before settling down and showing her calmer, affectionate side.

The Bakersfield Animal Care Center also reminds potential adopters that bringing a shelter dog home requires patience. Dogs need time to decompress and adjust to their new surroundings, and the shelter allows dogs to be returned within 10 days if an adoption ultimately isn’t the right fit.

Charlie is available for adoption through the Bakersfield Animal Care Center.

Tara Nelson with Bakersfield Animal Care Center recently introduced Billie as the Pet of the Week. Billie is approximately two years old, weighs around 50 pounds, and was recently spayed. She may be a cattle dog mix, with distinctive spots and patches that add to her already adorable appearance.

Billie was brought to the Bakersfield Animal Care Center by members of the public after being found on the street. Since arriving at the shelter, staff have discovered that she is a calm, affectionate dog who does exceptionally well on a leash. Adopt Billie
