Three dogs in the back, one in the backseat. We had several firewood deliveries my fiancé did out in Idaho, and I typically come along with all the dogs 🐶

Trying and “failing” with your dog will always be better than doing nothing at all. 🐾💛

Every time you practice a sit, a recall, or a calm walk—even if it’s messy—you’re teaching your dog that you’re worth listening to. You’re building trust, communication, and confidence on both ends of the leash. Doing nothing leaves your dog confused and on their own to figure out the world… and that’s when bad habits really grow.

So celebrate the tiny wins: the half-second sit, the almost-perfect recall, the one calm step on leash. Those “imperfect” reps are exactly what add up to a well-trained dog. Keep trying, keep showing up—your dog doesn’t need perfect, they just need you to put in the effort. 🤠🐶✨

Cricket has been doing a great job with her stay for long periods, with distractions!

Cricket is perfect on the leash, we’re working on side and will pair this with some e-collar training this week. She’s almost ready to go home!

Teaching your dog sit!

STEP 1: LURE WITH A TREAT 🍖

Hold a tasty treat just above your dog’s nose and slowly move it back over their head.
As their nose follows the treat, their butt should naturally lower into a sit.
👉 The moment their bottom hits the ground, reward with the treat and praise!

⸻

STEP 2: PRESSURE & RELEASE (FOR STUBBORN PUPS) 🐕‍🦺

If your dog won’t follow the treat:
1. Put a leash and collar on your dog.
2. Gently pull up on the leash and hold steady pressure until your dog settles into a sit.
3. Do NOT choke your dog – the pressure should be light but firm, never harsh.
4. The instant your dog sits, release the pressure and praise.

Pressure turns “on” when they are standing, and turns “off” when they sit — that’s how they learn!

⸻

STEP 3: ADD A RELEASE WORD 🗣️✨

Once your dog understands “sit,” teach them when they’re allowed to get up.

Use a fun release word like:
• “Yes!”
• “Break!”

Ask your dog to sit, wait a moment, then say your release word and encourage them to move.
Repeat so they learn: sit means stay put until they hear the release word.

⸻

TIPS FROM THE ROUNDUP 🌵
• Keep sessions short & fun
• Always reward calm, focused behavior
• End on a positive note

You and your pup will be a well-mannered western duo in no time! 🤠🐶💫

🏡 Create a Safe Space
Set up a cozy crate or playpen so your puppy has their own little “home base.” This helps them feel secure and supports potty training.

🕰️ Start a Routine
Feed, play, potty, nap — repeat! Consistent schedules help your puppy feel confident and learn faster.

🚪 Supervise or Tether
Avoid accidents and mischief by keeping your puppy in sight. Use a leash inside or keep them near you to build good habits.

💩 Potty Breaks Often!
Take your puppy outside every 20–30 minutes at first, especially after eating, drinking, waking up, or playing.

🐴 Slow + Gentle Introductions
New sounds, people, and places should be introduced slowly so your puppy doesn’t get overwhelmed.

💗 Lots of Praise & Treats
Celebrate the good behavior — especially potty outside, calmness, and responding to their name.

🌵 Remember — They’re Just a Baby
Be patient, be gentle, and give them time to learn.

⸻

🤠🐶 Happy Trails to you and your new little cow-pup! 🌵💕
