Hardest part of my job is having to say “GOOD BYE” to pets and people.

BEST part of my job is when a pet parent tells me their pup pulled to downtown…..JUST so they could “sniff shop” and get a treat. ❤️

My reply to the pet parent is I “pay them extra” for that 😂.

Hand written notes of good bye……hard not to cry.

A new p*er-reviewed study analyzing commercial dog and cat foods found multiple mold toxins present across all diets, with higher levels in foods containing more cereal ingredients like corn🌽, wheat🌾, barley, oats, and rice🍚. Researchers detected 63 different compounds⚠️, with common toxins such as DON, zearalenone, and fumonisins often appearing together at low levels.

While all amounts were below safety limits, the study highlights uncertainty around long-term and combined exposure. Pets are exposed to multiple toxins at once, and the effects of these mixtures over time are still largely unknown. Broader research suggests some mycotoxins may act additively or synergistically, potentially amplifying their impact, and have been linked to immune and gut changes in animal models.

Contaminated corn🌽, in particular, has been associated with some of the largest pet food recalls and highest reported pet death events in modern history. Notably, the Midwestern Pet Foods SPORTMiX recall was linked to over 130 dog deaths and 220 illnesses, while a Sunshine Mills recall affected multiple brands. Corn’s susceptibility to heat, humidity, and poor storage makes it a common source of aflatoxin contamination.

What a fun day today!

Officer Zach brought in his charming nephew and he hung out with me in the shop for a bit.

Meanwhile, Officer Whitney was “working” to find the nephew.

Officer Whitney and Officer Zach started searching from T&C and Officer Whitney brought them straight to Winslow Green and our store!

I’d do that a thousand times over. 🥰.

Some sad news today. Bailey peacefully passed away last night surrounded by loved ones. I hope you all have wonderful memories of the goof ball that he was. As you can imagine, we are heartbroken. RIP Bailey 🌈 💚

So late last night we had to say goodbye to a very very special dog. Bailey was almost 13 years old. We were able to FaceTime the entire family to say a final goodbye. . He was an incredibly special dog his person (he loved EVERYONE) and while we FaceTimed the family (both girls in the UK, and family in Seattle where Bailey was) we all reminisced about some of the goofy funny things he did… like we called him the camel because he’s stand at the door when it was raining absolutely refusing to go out to p*e or his feet would get wet (oh the drama). He was so wonderful with the kids always allowing them to dress him up in costumes, play with them just like he was one of their dolls. When Austin and I moved to Seattle in 2017, they became the best of friends going on hikes, swimming, chasing balls and stealing my snacks (and the occasional burger) off my plate - he even found a full sandwich in a hedge on a run one day 🤦🏽‍♀️ - boy was he stealth. He was an overall love bug. And he was also our nervous Nelly hiding in closets during storms and under covers during fireworks; and hence we named our Bailey’s, No more Wiggles product after him and who would’ve ever thought that special Springer Spaniel would have led us to create our most popular product ever?

But for now I just want to remember him as the dog that would be up for any adventure especially if chasing squirrels was in the plan. He’d always be there for the cuddles that the kids needed when they were happy or sad. The happiest pup ever.
RIP our dear furry friend you will be very, very missed.

We love you. Enjoy the other, side treats will be plentiful. Squirrels will be everywhere.

We’ll see you someday and again we love you to the moon and back 💚🌈💚
