🐴❤️ CT Ranch is more than riding lessons.

Once a month, we put the lessons aside and just enjoy being at the barn together.

Some hang around the fire and visit. 🔥
Most of the kids magically appear when the snacks come out 😂, then disappear again to play night games around the barn.

And that’s exactly why I love our monthly barn parties.

I want CT Ranch to be a place where riders don’t just come for their lesson and leave. I want it to be a place where they feel comfortable hanging out, making a new friend, laughing with their barn buddies, and simply enjoying being here.

Yes, we’re building better riders and horsemen—but we’re also building friendships, confidence, memories, and a little barn community that feels like home. ❤️

Because sometimes the best thing the barn gives you has nothing to do with riding. 🐴✨

🐴 If you only want to ride the horse but don't want to do the work that comes with the horse… you're missing half the lesson.

Some of the most important things riders learn at the barn happen before they ever put a foot in the stirrup.

Horsemanship isn't just what happens when you're sitting in the saddle.

It's filling water buckets.
Cleaning stalls.
Sweeping the barn.
Putting tack away correctly.
Checking fences and gates.
Feeding.
Grooming.
Cleaning up after your horse.
And noticing when something just doesn't seem quite right.

The riding might be the exciting part—but caring for the horse is the important part. ❤️

Horses don't magically appear groomed, fed, healthy, and ready to ride. They depend on people every single day—whether it's hot, cold, windy, you're tired, or you'd rather be doing something else.

Barn chores teach things riding alone can't always teach:

Responsibility. Work ethic. Awareness. Patience. And putting another living creature's needs before your own.

That's why at CT Ranch, I want our riders to learn more than how to ride.

I want them to understand what it actually takes to care for the horse underneath them.

Because being able to ride a horse makes you a rider.

Learning to care for, understand, and take responsibility for one is what builds a horseman. 🐴❤️

❤️🐴 What I hope my riders remember…

Someday, most of my riders won't remember every pattern we practiced, every correction I gave them, or every lesson where we worked on their seat, hands, or legs.

They might not remember which horse taught them their first lope, which lesson finally made something click, or how many times I reminded them to look up. 😉

But I hope they remember more than that.

I hope they remember the first time they did something they were scared to do—and realized they could.

I hope they remember that making a mistake didn't mean they failed. It meant they had another opportunity to try.

I hope they remember learning patience when their horse didn't understand the first time.

I hope they remember that being a good leader doesn't mean being the strongest or loudest. It means being clear, fair, confident, and kind.

I hope they remember learning to take care of something that depended on them.

I hope they remember that progress doesn't always happen quickly—and that showing up consistently matters.

Most of all, I hope they remember how they felt here.

Safe. Welcome. Capable. Important. ❤️

Because someday they may not have horses in their lives. They may choose a completely different path.

But the confidence, responsibility, patience, problem-solving, compassion, and resilience they learned alongside these horses?

Those lessons can follow them anywhere.

At CT Ranch, I'm proud when we create better riders.

But I'm even more proud when I get to watch horses help create confident, capable people. 🐴❤️

🐴 What actually goes into a riding lesson program?

When you pay for a riding lesson, you’re paying for so much more than the 45–60 minutes you spend in the saddle. ❤️

A lesson program is built from years of experience, education, planning, and investment.

Behind every lesson are things like:

🐎 Years spent learning horses, riding, training, and teaching
📝 Planning lessons around each rider’s current skills, goals, confidence, and learning style
🐴 Choosing the right horse for each rider and adjusting when needed
🌱 Keeping lesson horses trained, conditioned, healthy, and mentally happy
🌾 Hay, grain, supplements, bedding, and everyday horse care
🩺 Veterinary care, vaccinations, dental care, and emergencies
🔨 Farrier appointments and hoof care
🏡 Property, fencing, arenas, stalls, equipment, repairs, and maintenance
🧹 Hours of chores before and after lessons ever happen
🪖 Helmets, saddles, bridles, grooming supplies, and replacing worn-out equipment
📋 Insurance, paperwork, scheduling, communication, and running the business
📚 Continuing to learn so we can become better instructors and provide a better program
💭 And LOTS of time outside lessons thinking, planning, problem-solving, and figuring out what each rider needs next.

Some weeks a rider needs to be challenged. Other weeks they may need confidence, repetition, groundwork, or simply a quiet ride where they can reconnect with their horse.

That is why a good lesson program isn't just about putting someone on a horse and teaching them to steer.

🍂 Fall is officially here at CT Ranch! 🐴

Cooler mornings, crisp air, changing leaves, and horses starting to get a little extra fuzzy… there’s just something special about this time of year at the barn. ❤️

After the heat of summer, we are definitely ready for those cooler riding days! 🍁

Fall means hoodies at the barn, beautiful sunsets, happy horses, and soaking up every ride we can before winter decides to make its appearance. 😂❄️

Here’s to a beautiful fall season filled with horses, friends, learning, and plenty of barn memories. 🐎🍂❤️

One of the beautiful things about horses is that you get to decide what brings you joy. ❤️🐴

For some, happiness is simply brushing a horse, spending quiet time at the barn, or walking down the trail and enjoying the atmosphere.

For others, it’s setting a new goal every ride, improving a skill, preparing for a show, or stepping into the arena to compete.

And neither one is more valuable than the other.

You don’t have to compete to be a “real” horse person. You don’t have to constantly chase the next level. And if setting goals and competing is what lights you up—you should absolutely chase that too!

That’s the beauty of this sport. ✨

You can trail ride.
You can show.
You can learn new disciplines.
You can groom and love on horses.
You can challenge yourself every ride—or simply enjoy the ride.

There is room for all of it.

At CT Ranch, our goal isn’t to tell riders what their journey should look like. It’s to give them a solid foundation, confidence, and knowledge so they can discover what makes them happiest with horses. ❤️🐎

🐎 Understanding Different Disciplines Makes Better Horsemen

At CT Ranch, we don’t believe riders should only learn how to ride—we want them to understand the horse world as a whole. ❤️

That’s why we introduce our riders to different disciplines like Western, Hunt Seat/English, Reining, Ranch Riding, Showmanship and more.

Each discipline teaches something different:
✨ Different ways to communicate with your horse
✨ Different expectations for balance, position and control
✨ How tack and equipment can change between disciplines
✨ Why horses are trained differently for different jobs
✨ How one horse can have strengths that another may not

A rider may eventually find one discipline they absolutely LOVE—and that’s great! But understanding multiple disciplines helps riders become more adaptable, knowledgeable and well-rounded.

Because our goal at CT Ranch isn’t just to create riders who can stay in the saddle.

We’re creating capable horsemen who understand the WHY behind what they’re doing. 🐴❤️

🐴 One of the most important things we can teach our riders is that it’s okay to struggle.

Not every ride is going to be perfect.

Sometimes something doesn’t work. Sometimes a rider gets frustrated. Sometimes they’re nervous to try something new.

And sometimes… you have to get off, take a breath, and try again.

At CT Ranch, we want our riders to learn that making a mistake doesn’t mean you failed.

It means you learned something.

We teach them to pause, figure out what went wrong, make a plan, and try again. ❤️

Because that’s life too.

There will be hard days. There will be things that don’t come easily. There will be moments when confidence gets shaken.

What matters is learning that you can keep going.

You can ask for help.
You can change your approach.
You can try again.
You can learn from the experience.

And watching a rider go from “I can’t do this” to “Let me try again” is one of the best parts of what I do. 🐎❤️

We aren’t just building better riders. We’re helping build resilient, confident humans who know that one difficult moment doesn’t define them.
