Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping people of all ages build, restore, or maintain the functional skills needed for daily living, school, work, and community life.

Key Categories of Functional Skills Addressed in OT 👉

• Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Basic self-care tasks like dressing, bathing, grooming, eating, and toileting.

• Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs): More complex home and community tasks like cooking, cleaning, laundry, managing money, and taking medications.

• Fine Motor & Dexterity Skills: Small muscle control in the hands and fingers needed for handwriting, buttoning, zippering, cutting with scissors, and typing.

• Functional Cognition & Executive Functioning: The mental processes used to plan, organize, manage time, solve problems, remember steps, and regulate emotions.

• Sensory Processing & Regulation: How the brain takes in and responds to sensory information from the environment, affecting focus, calm, and behavior.
