August and September are the two months in our area with the highest risk of severe illness due to mosquito born diseases like EEE and WNV. We have been monitoring NYS department of health mosquito surveillance reports. And would like to share that there have been 4 human cases of WNV in NY so far this year as well as about 1500 WNV positive mosquito pools. We bring this to your attention not to scare people or cause fear. But to remind you that we are in the peak months for mosquito born diseases. Please take precautions to protect yourself and your horses during this time.

Oneida County had a case of West Nile virus last year.

Our next staff to be featured is Katie O'Neill. Katie was originally a client of ours, but she officially started as a "remote" employee a few years ago. She is an instrumental member of our office team, including keeping our records thorough and making sure your diagnostic results are received on time!

Katie has been involved with horses since she started taking riding lessons at 4 years old. She has an interesting educational background, with her Masters degree in Accounting and Accounting Information Systems, as well as her international certification in Computer Forensics and Digital Video Surveillance Forensics. She has continued to be involved in the horse world throughout her life, working at various boarding barns as well as providing vacation farm care for over 25 years. In her free time, she rides her own horses as well!

Today's teammate feature is Megan Phillips!

Megan was raised and still lives in Webster, NY, and fell in love with horses at horse camp when she was 6 years old. Since then she has been riding and competing in hunter/jumper shows around the state. She has completed her bachelor's degree at RIT and has plans to go on to veterinary school. Before Henderson Equine, Megan worked at various small animal vets, including emergency and rehab.

In addition to riding, Megan likes to spend time with her own pets, which include her two dogs, a bearded dragon, ball python, guinea pigs, and chickens. She also enjoys skiing, yoga, reading, and movie nights.

Megan has been working with us part time during school breaks, but she will be joining us in an even greater capacity now that her undergraduate degree is complete!
