GOOD GIRL, GRETA! ❤️🐾🙂
Last Saturday was a puppy appointment with rambunctious, high energy, 5-month-old Bernese Mountain dog, Greta! Her human family got a hold of me, desperately wanting some help controlling her wild antics, which included intense nipping, physical collisions, and general refusal to listen to any commands at all!

When I arrived, I found Greta to be as advertised. At first she completely ignored my attempts to get her attention and control her disrespectful antics. I had to scale up the intensity level, and as I did so I explained how it was important to do this in a canine-style way so Greta would understand she was being addressed by the humans as if they were her canine parents!

Finally, Greta began to listen as she realized things were going to stay intense unless she was respectful. I coached the family through some canine-style body language communication that would help Greta understand more clearly that the family was taking authority at home!

By the time I left, Greta had flopped down on the floor and was taking a well-deserved snooze. All that brain work was tiring!

And, of course, my favorite part was the puppy kisses. Boy are those great! 😊❤️

I have no doubt Greta is going to make improvements in her behavior as her human family lovingly but firmly holds the line so Greta can enjoy her life, and grow up to be a balanced, exemplary adult dog!

You all got this! 😊👍🐾

A VISIT WITH LUNA & MILLIE 💚❤️
Last week I had the opportunity to do an initial consultation in Bowling Green, Indiana with beautiful shepherd sibling packmates, Luna and Millie. These lovely little ladies live on extensive farmland with a large family. The pups are super smart and have great temperaments, and responded very well to the age-appropriate ground rules I put in place. The family did a great job practicing their canine body language skills, and the dogs were responsive to this.

Keep up the good work, you all! 🙂🐾👍

A VISIT WITH CASHEW & PEPPER! 🙂💚❤️
Last week was an enjoyable consult with these two beautiful littermates. Cashew and Pepper’s human family has been doing lots of good intentional work already, my job is too dial in their training so they would become the best pups possible!

I talked about caution when using a high-pitched voice as this would initiate dominance signaling from the pups. I also talked about social factors related to crashing into people’s personal space, and giving a zone of respect when the humans were eating. I showed the family how to communicate and enforce these rules.

Throughout the consult, I explained and demonstrated canine-style body language techniques that would help the dogs understand more clearly what was being asked of them. Both Cashew and Pepper responded brilliantly!

Stay loving and firm, human family, and they will grow up to be awesome adult dogs!

THAT’S BETTER, BUG, BLUE, BEAU & BEAN! 🙂💙💚♥️💛

Thursday afternoon was a consultation on Indy’s west side with these four handsome pack mates. The main point of focus was the frequent fights that erupted between Blue and Bug.

After I met the dogs, and established my social rank, I explained and demonstrated some basic rules all the dogs needed to follow. Beau pushed back the most, used to calling the shots. I had to intensify things a bit with him, but he finally yielded to the process.

Now it was time to dial in on the fighting between Blue and Bug. I watched the way the dogs eyed each other, and explained to the human family how to properly read their body language signals going back-and-forth, and interrupt them quickly with authoritative canine-style body language.

It was peaceful between the two dogs until Beau challenged me, and the intensity in the room ramped up. At that point, Blue and Bug went at each other, but were quickly pulled apart with no harm done to either do. I emphasized to the family it would be important to keep an eye on Beau, as his energy was causing tension that exacerbated the situation!

All in all, it was a productive session focused on learning to read canine body language, and address social improprieties with authority—canine style.

I have no doubt that Bug and Blue are going to make great improvements in their relationship as their human family consistently utilizes the techniques I showed them.

MUCH BETTER, MAGGIE! 😊👍❤️
Last week was a consultation in the Whiteland area with this smart, lively girl. Rottweiler, Maggie, had proven to be a bit of a handful for her human parents, who loved her dearly but wanted the key to helping her settle down!

When I arrived, I asked to meet Maggie in her kennel. When I walked in the room to see her, Maggie barked and growled and seemed very unsure of my presence there. I told her human parents I was going to go ahead and reset outside. They could let her out of the kennel and I would knock on the door and see her typical behaviors.

I did so, and Maggie did indeed jump up on me. A quick correction stopped her immediately, and she was extremely respectful throughout the duration of the consult.

I explained to Maggie’s human parents the importance of utilizing canine-style body language cues, similar to those Maggie‘s canine parents would use to correct her. We practiced utilization of this when it came to claiming things Maggie liked to steal, like sandals, food, and other items.

Maggie responded extremely well, and her human parents did a great job practicing the new body language techniques. It was awesome to see how calm Maggie became-and how respectful!

I have no doubt Maggie is going to continue to make great behavioral progress as a human parents lovingly but firmly hold her to the new rules.

You all got this! See you soon for a follow up! 😊👍🐾

WAY TO GO, COCO! 😊👍💜
Last week was a consultation in the Carmel area with this pretty girl. Australian Shepherd mix, Coco, needed to learn to walk outside without reacting to other dogs and people, and her human mom had got a hold of me to help with this. (I had done an initial consultation with Coco many years ago, and now it was time to address the issue of reactivity outside the home!)

As we prepared to leave the home for the walk, I demonstrated how to let Coco know through canine-style body language, that she was not to charge through the thresholds, but wait till her human mom invited her through. She did pretty well with this, and the walk began.

I explained the fine points of observing and correcting Coco‘s body language as we encountered other dogs and people. I also demonstrated how to correct Coco’s thinking as she started to show signs of intensification.

Coco was extremely responsive, and in me minutes was calm and ignoring other dogs and people. Her human mom seemed amazed by this, and I explained that she needed to take more authority in Coco’s life and replicate more closely the way Coco’s mom would handle these kind of situations.

It was a very encouraging follow-up session, and Coco did an outstanding job! She was even able to lay down calmly at a local park while kids and dogs (and all sorts of hubbub) interacted around her. I was very proud of her! Her human mom did a great job practicing the techniques I showed her, and I’m confident she is going to see great improvement in Coco’s outdoor behavior.

Keep up the good work you all! 😊🐾👍
