🐴 WAY BACK WHEN — SENSATIONS GUNSMOKE 🏆

Some horses leave their mark in the show ring, while others carry the bloodlines that help shape a breed. Sensations Gunsmoke did both!

Foaled June 6, 1981, Sensations Gunsmoke (81-19101) was a sorrel-based gray stallion bred by Karen G. Perkins of Koshkonong, Missouri.

His pedigree was certainly one worth remembering! A direct son of the legendary Merry Boy Sensation and out of a daughter of Zane Grey, Gunsmoke carried some influential Missouri Fox Trotting Horse bloodlines. He was also a full brother to Magical Sensation.

🏆 1987 Mid America Grand Champion

In 1987, Gunsmoke earned his place in the history books by capturing both prestigious titles, demonstrating the quality and ability behind his pedigree.

One of the things we love about our Way Back When series is seeing how these horses connect across generations. We previously featured his sire, Merry Boy Sensation, and today we’re recognizing a son who carried that family name into the winner’s circle.

MFTHBA Announces 2026 Election Results!

The results are in! The MFTHBA announced its 2026 election results during the October 12 Board of Directors meeting.

Member participation in this year's election nearly doubled compared to 2025!

Congratulations to the newly elected officers and regional directors, who will begin their two-year terms on November 1, 2026.

We sincerely appreciate all candidates who stepped forward to serve and every member who participated in the election.

An engaged membership is essential to building a strong Association and ensuring the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse continues to thrive for generations.

Hit the Trails This Fall with NATRC!

Looking for a great way to enjoy your Missouri Fox Trotting Horse, explore beautiful trails, and connect with fellow equestrians?

The North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC), an MFTHBA Partner Organization, is hosting its Fall in the Ozarks Ride, October 24–25, at North Fork River Ranch in West Plains, Missouri!

NATRC offers opportunities for riders of all experience levels to develop their horsemanship skills, strengthen their partnership with their horses, and enjoy the camaraderie of the trail riding community.

📅 October 24–25, 2026
📍 North Fork River Ranch | West Plains, MO

Riders can choose between traditional Competitive Trail Riding (CTR) and Leisure Distance (LeD) options. All equine breeds are welcome, and new riders are encouraged to participate!

Did you know? Through our partnership with NATRC, the MFTHBA recognizes the accomplishments of Missouri Fox Trotting Horses competing in NATRC events. It’s another great way to showcase the versatility, endurance, and abilities of our breed!

Whether you’re an experienced competitive trail rider or interested in trying something new, this is a wonderful opportunity to get out and enjoy your horse.

A Great Learning Opportunity for Our West Coast Fox Trotter Community!

Supporting education and opportunities for Missouri Fox Trotting Horse owners is an important part of growing our breed!

MFTHBA member, trainer, and past Trainer of the Year Bryce Jefferson will be sharing his knowledge and experience at an upcoming clinic hosted by the Bear Valley Carriage Club in Bear Valley Springs, California.

The clinic will focus on improving communication and connection with your horse, gait development, proper frame, and groundwork.
