Dr. Kally rehab update! 💙

It’s hard to believe we’re already 2 weeks out from ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, and chondroplasty surgery!

Recovery hasn’t been easy, but Dr. Kally has been working incredibly hard in physical therapy and has been absolutely crushing her rehab. Every day she’s getting a little stronger, a little steadier, and one step closer to getting back to doing what she loves—caring for your animals.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent kind messages, and been so patient during her recovery. Your support has meant more than you know.

Just a few more weeks, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone again! We can’t wait to get back to helping your horses and pets. ❤️🐴🐶

This summer’s heat has been especially hard on our senior horses. Over the past several weeks, we’ve received more calls than usual from families having to say goodbye to beloved companions who simply couldn’t overcome the effects of this extreme weather.

If you’re caring for an older horse, check on them often, keep them cool and hydrated, and don’t ignore subtle changes—they can make all the difference.

Today, Dr. Kally took a big step toward recovery after her knee surgery, and we’re so grateful to share that everything went well! ❤️

She is headed home and doing wonderfully, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the incredible surgeons, nurses, and staff who took such great care of her today.

To all of our amazing clients, friends, and colleagues—thank you for the kind messages, prayers, and encouragement. Your support has meant more than words can express, and it has been such a comfort to know Dr. Kally is surrounded by a community that cares so deeply.

Over the next several weeks, her focus will be on healing so she can get back to doing what she loves most—caring for your animals and helping horses and their families.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while she recovers. We can’t wait to welcome Dr. Kally back when she’s ready. Until then, she’s looking forward to a little rest, lots of puppy cuddles, and following her rehabilitation plan just as she encourages her own patients to do!

💙 When is it time? - Assessing equine quality of life.

One of the hardest parts of loving a horse is recognizing when they’re no longer truly living the life they deserve.

As owners, we often ask ourselves, “Am I making this decision too soon… or waiting too long?”

To help make that decision a little less overwhelming, we’ve created an At-Home Equine Quality of Life Assessment. This simple guide can be completed at home to help you objectively evaluate your horse’s comfort, mobility, appetite, happiness, and overall well-being. While no checklist can make the decision for you, it can provide clarity during an incredibly emotional time and help guide conversations with your veterinarian.

If your assessment suggests your horse may be struggling, please know you don’t have to face those conversations alone. We are here to answer your questions with compassion, honesty, and without judgment.

💙 When Is It Time? Assessing Quality of Life in Your Senior Horse

One of the hardest decisions we make as horse owners is knowing when it’s time to say goodbye. Our horses give us years of loyalty, companionship, and unforgettable memories. In return, they deserve a peaceful, dignified ending when their quality of life begins to fade.

As horses age, it’s important to look beyond just the number of birthdays they’ve celebrated. Ask yourself:

🐴 Are they able to get up and down without struggling?

🌾 Are they maintaining a healthy appetite and body condition?

💧 Can they comfortably access food and water?

❤️ Do they still seem interested in their surroundings and interactions?

🩺 Are chronic pain or medical conditions affecting their comfort despite treatment?

😊 Are they experiencing more good days than bad?

There isn’t a single “right” day, but there can be a point where waiting too long means your horse experiences unnecessary pain, fear, or suffering. Choosing humane euthanasia before a crisis occurs is one of the greatest acts of love and compassion we can give them.

When that time comes, we’re here to support you through every step. We offer respectful on-farm pickup and individual equine cremation, allowing your horse to remain whole throughout the process. Ashes can be returned in a memorial urn, or, if you choose not to have them returned, they are respectfully spread on our private property.

If you’re struggling with this decision, know that you don’t have to make it alone. We’re always happy to discuss your horse’s quality of life, answer your questions, and help you create a peaceful plan when the time comes.

While we made the difficult decision to discontinue our conditioning and rehabilitation program, it was incredibly important to us that this equipment continue helping horses throughout Missouri. We couldn’t be happier to pass it along to such a deserving colleague who is passionate about providing exceptional equine care.

A friendly reminder that equine appointments will be unavailable from July 1 through August 31 while Dr. Kally recovers from surgery.

During this time:
🐴 Equine appointments: Closed July 1 – August 31
🐶 Canine Chiropractic & Acupuncture: Still available at Stephens College on July 13 and August 20
🌈 Cremation Services: Available as usual with no interruption

We appreciate your patience and understanding as Dr. Kally takes the time needed to recover. We look forward to returning to our regular equine schedule in September and appreciate your continued support of our practice.

🐴 Equine Cremation FAQs

One of the greatest honors we have is helping families say goodbye to a beloved horse. We know many owners have questions about the cremation process, so we’ve answered a few of the most common ones below.

❓ Is my horse cremated alone?
Yes. Every horse entrusted to our care is cremated individually. We believe every horse deserves to be treated with the same dignity and respect they received throughout their life.

❓ Is my horse cremated whole?
Yes. Our cremation equipment is large enough to accommodate horses without having to cut them into multiple pieces. We are able to transport and cremate your horse intact, allowing us to provide the respectful aftercare that every horse deserves.

❓ How much ash will I receive?
A horse produces a significant amount of cremated remains. We typically return approximately 50 pounds of ashes for families who wish to scatter them. If you would like a keepsake, we can also place a portion of the ashes into an urn or memorial container of your choosing.

❓ What if I don’t want the ashes returned?
We completely understand that every family’s wishes are different. If you choose not to have your horse’s ashes returned, they are respectfully spread on private land with the same care and dignity we provide throughout the entire process.

We know these decisions are never easy, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have before, during, or after your horse’s passing. Our goal is to provide compassionate, respectful care so you can focus on remembering the life you shared together. ❤️

📅 July & August Schedule Update

As many of you know, Dr. Kally will be undergoing knee surgery and focusing on recovery soon.

Beginning in July and continuing through August, we will not be scheduling equine appointments. This temporary pause will allow for proper healing so we can return to providing the highest level of care for our equine patients.

During this time:

🐴 Equine appointments: Temporarily unavailable through the end of August
🐶 Canine chiropractic & acupuncture: Available as scheduled
🌈 Animal Cremation services: Operating as normal, including pickups and aftercare services

We appreciate your patience and understanding while Dr. Kally takes the time needed to recover. We look forward to seeing all of our equine clients again this fall.
