I am the 12th juror. I hope you are too.
What happens to a society when it turns its back on God?
Truth becomes relative.
The lines of morality become blurred.
Confusion abounds.
We are seeing it around us.
We see confusion surrounding gender and identity. We see unborn children killed in the womb—the very place they should be safest. We see euthanasia increasingly presented as an answer to suffering. And we now live in a society where a person’s state of mind can become part of the argument for excusing the murder of innocent children.
Yet God’s standard has not changed.
“Thou shalt not kill.” — Exodus 20:13
America once openly acknowledged the authority of God’s Word. Prayer was heard in our schools. The Ten Commandments were displayed. People placed their hands on Bibles when taking solemn oaths. Biblical convictions helped shape our understanding of right and wrong.
Isaiah warned about what happens when those distinctions are turned upside down:
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil…” — Isaiah 5:20
Government has authority, and Scripture teaches us to respect lawful authority. But government is not the highest authority.
When man’s commands conflict with God’s commands, Scripture gives us a clear answer:
“We ought to obey God rather than men.” — Acts 5:29
That is why I am the 12th juror.
My conscience does not belong to the government, the culture, the media, or popular opinion. It belongs first to God.
When I am asked to decide between what society says is right and what God’s Word says is right, God’s Word gets the final vote.
Truth still matters.
Right and wrong still matter.
God’s Word still matters.
I am the 12th juror. Are you?
