Walker is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, an uncommon breed that is distinguished by their athleticism and ease in the water. Fun fact, Tollers are the smallest of all the retrievers! Walker had a small mast cell tumor on his shoulder, and his people knew Dr. Shuman was the only guy for the job. Fortunately, all went well and Walker is recovering like the champ he is! Good boy, Walker!
P.S. I had to quack to get his attention for this picture 😆

Before and after pain control...

Gus came to us, like many of our patients, with a torn cruciate ligament that had been causing him pain and issues getting around for some time. The first photo here is pre-op. He's the cutest, but you can see that he's a little anxious. The second photo is directly post-op, and it appears our pain management protocols are hitting juuuuust right. We love to see a comfortable, relaxed patient!

On Wednesdays we wear PINK! Mila came to us for a laparoscopic spay procedure and she's just perfect. Although the recovery from a lap spay is very quick and the incisions are very small, mom did want something to protect her post-operatively, so we got her this cute surgical suit. And we must say, she is looking quite stunning. Mila, pink is your color!

POTUS is an excellent example of what great preventive care and early intervention can do!

POTUS has regular wellness lab work to make sure he is in tip-top shape. He had some crystals show up on his urinalysis, so during his regular dental cleaning his doctor did an ultrasound and some X-rays, which showed some small bladder stones.

He was referred to us for a laparoscopic-assisted bladder stone removal. While we were in his abdomen for that bladder stone removal, we inspected his other organs and discovered a small tumor on his spleen. We called his owners, and they approved a splenectomy. The spleen was removed and sent to the lab for biopsy, and a few days later we had great news-- the tumor was benign!

Just imagine-- if he had not had regular lab work, his owners would not have known about his urinary crystals. If he hadn't had regular dental cleanings, he may not have had an ultrasound and X-rays. If he hadn't had a laparoscopic procedure for the bladder stones, we would never have seen that tumor on his spleen, and it could have developed into something much more serious.

We are so inspired by POTUS's story! Here's to many more years of being a good boy!

Wyatt had a large lump on his leg, and his doctors made the determination that amputation would be the best and safest choice for his long-term health. Drs. Shuman and Kmietsch worked together to ensure that Wyatt's surgery went quickly and smoothly, and he is now living his best tripod life! He has been such a brave and cheerful guy throughout this process and we couldn't be prouder. Go Wyatt!

Chopper is a ten-year-old sentient ball of fluff. He had been dealing with a hernia for quite some time, and it was really cramping his style. His family knew something had to be done, so they got him in for surgery and he is getting back to tip-top (round, fluffy) shape. Go Chopper!

Pablo came to us after his beloved cat tree fell on him and broke his leg. Not only was his leg injured, but his feelings were very hurt by the betrayal of his favorite piece of furniture! Luckily both his feelings and his leg can be rehabilitated :) Surgery went well and he is well on his way to a great recovery. We love you Pablito!

Blue has the best side-eye around! We appreciate a critical thinker around here, so we don't mind taking some time to earn Blue's trust. Dr. Kmietsch's bedside manner and surgical prowess gave Blue the reassurance she needed to warm up to us, and we were all friends by the end of the day. Thanks to Blue and Blue's mom for your willingness to give Moontower a try :)

Sheldon was a free-roaming, no-owner kind of guy until recently, when he thought he might give the housecat life a try. Unfortunately, he had one last tangle with something or other, and showed up at his dad's place with a broken arm. Lucky for Sheldon, he picked the best cat dad in the world, who did not hesitate to opt for surgical repair. The procedure went very smoothly, and Sheldon is adjusting the indoor kitty life with all the pain meds, regular meals and special treats he needs to make a full recovery. Yay Sheldon!

Cora had been limping on and off since the winter, and her primary veterinarian took X-rays and diagnosed a CCL tear. When she arrived at Moontower, we discovered that the angle of her tibial plateau was exceedingly steep, necessitating a surgical approach that is quite different from our standard TPLO. Thankfully, Dr. Shuman was up to the task and completed the surgery that day. Cora has been an excellent little patient for her mom at home and she is getting better day by day. We love you Cora!
