🎆 5 Tips to Keep Your Best Friends Safe This 4th of July! 🎆

The Fourth of July is full of fun, food, and fireworks for us but for our cats and dogs, it can be the scariest day of the year. Did you know that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day?

To keep your fur babies safe, calm, and happy, check out these 5 essential safety tips:

🐾 1. Keep Them Indoors & Secure
Even if your dog loves the yard or your cat likes to lounge on the porch, bring them completely inside before the festivities begin. Loud bangs can trigger an intense “flight” response, causing even well-behaved pets to bolt over fences or through open gates. 

🤫 2. Create a “Zen Zone”
Set up a cozy, windowless interior room with their favorite bed, blankets, and toys. Close the curtains and turn on a TV, fan, or calming music to help muffle the sudden, booming sounds from outside.

🏷️ 3. Double-Check ID Tags & Microchips
Take 5 minutes today to make sure your pet’s collar tags are legible and up-to-date. More importantly, log into your microchip registry website to confirm your current phone number and address are correct. If the worst happens, this is their ticket home! 

🍔 4. Guard the BBQ Plate
Keep those delicious party foods out of reach. Cooked bones can splinter and cause internal damage, corn on the cob is a major intestinal blockage risk, and onions, garlic, grapes, and alcohol are highly toxic to both dogs and cats. Stick to pet-safe treats instead!

💊 5. Plan Ahead for Anxiety Relief
If your pet shivers, paces, pants, or hides during loud noises, don’t wait until the fireworks start to seek help. Don't let the gray whiskers fool you Fig is still a fetch fanatic! 🎾 At 13 years young, this adorable Corgi/Cocker Spaniel mix lives for chasing balls, soaking up sunshine, and spending time with her family.

10 Summer Safety Tips for Your Dog🐶

1. Keep Fresh Water Available🌊
Warm weather can cause dogs to become dehydrated quickly. Always provide clean, fresh water at home and bring water along during walks, hikes, or outings. Even if your dog enjoys swimming, they still need access to safe drinking water.

2. Stay Away from Peak Heat
High temperatures can put your dog at risk for heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Plan outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or evening. Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.

3. Protect Against Sun Exposure ☀️
Dogs can get sunburned too, especially those with light-colored fur or exposed skin. Use a pet-safe sunscreen on sensitive areas like the nose and ears, and keep your dog's coat well-groomed to help prevent overheating.

4. Guard Those Paws🐾
Hot pavement, concrete, and sand can burn your dog's paw pads. Before heading out, test the ground with your hand. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pet. Whenever possible, choose grassy or shaded walking paths.

5. Be Alert for Snakes🐍
Snakes are more active during the summer months. Keep your dog on a leash when exploring trails or wooded areas and stay aware of your surroundings. If your pet is bitten by a snake, contact your veterinarian immediately.

6. Make Sure Shade Is Available🌳
