Fun things happening lately. We run a very busy program, with events, shows, trips, routine horse care etc. Summer heat forces us to slow down and just enjoy the process and the people.

Speaking of working hard at training, trusting the process, making a plan, using your village, and dedication: our BEHS TRAINING TEAM!!

Some huge changes have been happening for all of the girls and their mounts. With consistent work, goals, perseverance, planning, and a very handy covered arena. Things are clicking for our trainers and rescue horses.

Here are a few photos from today's session with Eloise-Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society and Marlee.

Both of these mares had trouble with shoulder control therefore lunging was a struggle, today they both displayed light aids and willing horses! The lightbulbs are so fun to see 💡

Horse ownership and training is not for everybody and not for the faint of heart.

It requires you to have dedication, budgeting skills, and flexibility. You need to understand serenity and be willing to alter your expectations. Repetition and consistency are cornerstones. It takes a village and you must have people in your corner that you trust and can reach out to. It requires support and camaraderie. Barn life balance and progression will often feel out of reach. The roller coaster ride of highs and lows is real. But for those who are lucky enough and able to ride the roller coaster, it can be such a rewarding journey.

Today's training ride tally: one went as planned. One required a hard 180 change of plans 🙂

There are a lot of good supplement companies out there and a lot of good supplements, but often a good supplement can become untenable with terrible customer service and shipping. Other times a good supplement can become five star with the addition of some amazing support, customer service, and shipping management.

I feel this way about SmartEquine. When SmartPak first appeared on the market I was very skeptical and didn't see the benefits. But over the years I recognized the benefit of their SmartPak system when it comes to supplement waste and dosage control. When I started trying their branded products. I was happily surprised and got some great results with my personal horses. So as the barn grew bigger I encouraged the use of their supplement services and it has been a huge benefit to my program. I couldn't imagine if all of my boarders decided to do single buckets of supplements. The SmartPak drawers are always the most easily stocked, never lapse any dosages, and are so clean and tidy.

And then there are people like Rachel , the barn representatives that have taken our barn as a personal responsibility. They have really made this company such a wonderful addition to my life. I have a direct number to my rep who is always happy to help me alter deliveries for both myself and my clients, alter dosages, compare prices and ingredients, a bottle of this or that to my next shipment, and help me with every other possible issue that could arise with any product that they carry. They are also really good at encouraging us to buy their product but are never pushing too hard and will always be happy to help me when I add supplements into the SmartPaks that aren't their brand.

Today I had a wonderful time getting to meet Rachael our Smart Barn representative for the first time, She came all the way from up north to Texas and wanted to meet me in person after so long of helping me juggle all of the crazy! She is beyond helpful and even during her travel to Texas was dealing with some doubled up autoships and sending a backup container of electrolytes that I had requested.

One thing I can say about SmartPak is their customer service is beyond anything of any other company I've ever dealt with. It was nice to see Rachel and apologize to her and expressed how important she is in my management. Often I'm in the middle of a lesson when the client comes up to me and I send her a message immediately about a product so that I do not forget about it. If I'm talking to a client about changing dosages of a supplement, I can message her and the dosages are changed long before the horse and rider are cooled down and leaving the barn!

Thank you to Rachel for all of the times she's put up with me and helped me minimize supplement and product juggling for over 30 horses!

Salt, electrolytes, sweetwater, and rinsing carousel this afternoon. The horses all seemed to be handling the heat surprisingly well. Thankfully the humidity was decently low with a bit of a breeze.

We are hoping all of our friends are having the same luck with their animals handling today's extreme heat.

Along with our current horses in training for the Bluebonnet Horse Expo & Rescue Horse Training Challenge we have a few graduates at our barn as well.

Our oldest graduate of the Bluebonnet program is Ladyhawk who competed in the professional division with our trainer in 2013 finishing in second place. Since then she has become a staple of our lesson program who absolutely loves to jump!

Charlotte who is also competing this year with Sancho adopted Maybelle 2021 and has really helped her blossom into a beautiful well-trained partner.

Our newest Bluebonnet graduate is Teya (formerly, Safire) who was adopted last year by one of our newer families. They are bonding as a family, learning all about each other. Taya is proving to be a very patient pony and we can't wait to see what the future holds for them.

This program and the trainers that participate in it really open the doors to showing what these horses can really do!
