It often takes a community to save a life — and at just 2 months old and under 1.5 pounds, tiny kitten Womp Womp already has an incredible team rallying behind her.

Her story started with a caring neighbor who had been looking out for a stray mama cat and her litter. One day, he noticed something curious: two tiny kittens were actively trying to push their sibling across the street to safety. 🥹 When he got closer, he realized why:Womp Womp couldn't use her back legs.

She is now in our care and our medical team discovered her paralysis is likely due to spinal trauma though we have no way of knowing what happened. Because of her injury, Womp Womp cannot express her bladder on her own and requires , hands-on care.Womp Womp has already been loved by so many: her brave siblings who tried to push her to safety, the compassionate caregiver who watched over her family and brought her in and our dedicated APA! medical team providing specialized nursing care.

Sweet Pepe is showing us all what resilience and love can do! When he first arrived from a shelter in rural Texas, his tender body carried the heavy marks of a tough past, with bruising along his spine and sore neck lacerations. But thanks to a wonderful foster home, this gentle boy is discovering that the world can be soft, kind, and full of cozy moments.

In his loving foster care setup, Pepe is learning to build confidence at his own easy pace. Everyday milestones like stepping through doorways or meeting welcoming faces are big victories for him, and every small step forward is filled with love and warmth.

Pepe and so many others are having a brighter week thanks to the incredible heart of our community! When we put out an urgent call for support last week, so many wonderful individuals opened their homes and welcomed a foster pet in need. Together, you helped 87 pets with the vast majority heading out on cozy, restorative sleepovers!

To everyone who opened their doors and hearts to welcome a sweet pup: thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Watching a sensitive dog blossom into a happy, trusting companion is pure magic, and your love gives brave pets like Pepe the peaceful sanctuary they need to heal and thrive.

Throughout September, we paused to reflect on the Journey of Lifesaving that has taken place in our community for the last 15 years. Austin has worked diligently to ensure that pets don’t fall through the cracks: from tiny kittens who can fit in the palm of your hand to large dogs who need a little extra time. Achieving and maintaining that No Kill benchmark has been a true team effort, driven by passionate community members opening their homes, volunteering, and giving generously.

Pets like Josephine, Lottie, , and Hilo are all alive today because our community championed them and believes every pet deserves a true chance at life. ]

Arriving at the North Carolina Shelter Pet Adoption Center after overcoming a rough past, Penny Lane spent valuable time in several foster homes where she learned to blossom into a confident, affectionate companion.

Known across the S**C family for her irresistible puppy eyes and star presence at adoption events, she captured the hearts of everyone she met. When her future mom, Molly, visited the center, it was an instant match. Today, Penny Lane is thriving in her new home alongside her human baby sister, Violet, proving that every hurdle leads to a happy ending.

Did you know that connecting pets with our amazing partner shelter networks across the country is one of the most exciting ways to give Texas pets a bright second chance?

When Mia (now Opal) arrived in our care from Del Rio, her journey was just beginning. Thanks to the awesome support PEDIGREE Foundation n has given us for our National Transport Program, we were able to whisk her off to safety , giving her top-notch care and a wonderful new path forward!

Today, Mia is living her best life, thriving, swimming, splashing around, and soaking up all the love with her fantastic family! This critical funding helps us move sweet pets from shelters needing extra support to destination partners nationwide where wonderful families are eagerly waiting to welcome them.

🚨 URGENT! 🚨: Waters are rising outside of Austin. A rural shelter is predicting they’ll be losing access to their shelter due to rising water levels from the heavy rains, making the pets in their care at-risk. Our Disaster Response team is en-route now to pick up 9 dogs and about 16 cats and kittens, delivering them safely to Austin this evening.

Over the last 48 hours, our shelter was a whirlwind of activity, paws, and happy tails. Thanks to a giant wave of wonderful community members, 47 sweet pups were moved out of the shelter and safely tucked into loving homes.

This community has moved mountains for the animals in our care and we wanted to take this moment to express our gratitude to each and every one of you. Whether you made a new friend or just simply shared our posts, you made a difference in the lives of these pets.

While this storm prep was a major success, with heavy rains still forecasted, we want to continue connecting pets with people — getting them out of the shelter and into your dry, cozy spaces. If you have room in your heart and home for a temporary foster, consider opening your doors; even a short stay makes a world of difference!
