You’re welcome.

We know you didn’t come here looking for a life partner. And yet here you are.

That’s how it starts. Next thing you know you’re at Austin Pets Alive meeting “just one” and leaving with a 9-pound creature who will scream at you through the shower curtain, steal your pillow, and somehow be on your chest before you’ve even sat down.

When she plays, she plays hard… for about 10 minutes. Then it’s time to relax. 💤 Roxie Roseanne is tiny, adorable, and obsessed with anything she can swat across the floor. Whether it’s her toys or random tiny objects she discovers, Roxie is all in.

And yes, she has a broken tail. No, she does not care! Roxie has adapted beautifully and carries on with grace.

See more of this sweetie on our website tinyurl.com/APARoxieRoxanne and write [email protected] to meet Roxie Roxanne!

Brutus, formerly known as Cauliflower, waited 1,386 days at APA! for a home.

When Brutus arrived at APA! at 10 years old, he was partially paralyzed, on daily medication, and terrified at night. He had quite the uphill battle to move through. But his foster mom Laura saw something in him the day she took him in, and she kept seeing it for three and a half years!

In that time, Brutus has had two dental surgeries, eye surgery, and has learned to navigate the world with a belly band to support his hind legs. He now follows Laura from room to room just to be near her, burrowing into her side and extending snuggle sessions whenever he gets the chance.

Laura had one way of describing him: “Brutus is by far the bravest dog I have ever met.”

On March 30th, and at nearly 14 years old, Laura made the decision to keep Brutus out of the shelter for good and permanently invite him into her home.

There are more pets like Brutus out there. Senior dogs with big hearts and complex needs who just need the right person to look their way.
Thanks to our friends at The Grey Muzzle Organization, we are able to provide senior dogs like Brutus the medical care they need — so that they can find a home, and more importantly, a family to live their golden years with. And that's exactly what this old man is doing today. 🐾

For a lot of families in Austin, a bag of cat or dog food keeps their pet out of a shelter. Our pet pantry is always in need of dry and canned dog and cat food and cat litter. We need your help filling the pantry that keeps them together.🧡

Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender AKA PASS is our program that provides resources and services to Texas residents who are experiencing challenges to keeping their pet(s) with an overall goal of keeping pets out of the sheltering system and providing a safe, judgment-free zone for anyone in need.

We invite you out to be part of this cause and support people in YOUR community who need a little help so they don’t have to make the impossible choice of surrendering a beloved member of their family.

A bag of Purina Dog Chow or Cat Chow. A case of Friskies or Fancy Feast. A bag of Purina ONE. Bags of food like these and any other pet food donation is welcome, and every one of them keeps a pet exactly where they belong.

ANY DAY. MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

We’re going to say it-there is NO reason for Jingle to not have been adopted already. It makes no sense-she loves people of all ages, may be able to live with a well matched dog, knows so many tricks and prefers to spend her senior years napping away the day. Don’t let another day go by without taking this girl home with you!

Sweet May is a 1-year-old Shepherd mix who came to us from a Lockhart shelter after being found injured on the side of the road. She has a broken femur so severe she can't stand or walk on her own — she pulls herself around on her front paws. She also needs her opposite hip replaced. Her recovery will require multiple surgeries and her treatment will cost $12,000. Despite all of it, the moment someone approaches her she rolls over for belly rubs.

Flute is extremely underweight despite having a strong appetite — a clear sign something deeper is going on. He needs $50 for lab work so our team can figure out what's wrong before his condition gets worse.

Taxi Driver is a tuxedo mama cat who came to us from Austin Animal Services with her three kittens. She has feline leukemia virus and has stopped eating — something more serious may be developing. She needs $30 for blood work so our team can help her start feeling better.

Pizza Cat earned her name fair and square.🍕 This girl loves people, attention, and getting involved in absolutely everything you’re doing. And yes, maybe she has stolen a slice. It’s ok. After all, cats can have a little pepperoni. As a treat.

She’ll happily curl up on your lap or chest for a nap and hand out little kisses. She LOVES kids and is happiest when her people are around.

Pizza Cat is FeLV+, but don’t let that scare you off. Cats with FeLV can live happy, love-filled lives, and APA! provides FeLV-related support after adoption.

See Pizza Cat’s profile at the link in bio, and email [email protected] to talk with her foster.
