🐾 June is National Pet Foster Month! 🐾

This month, we're celebrating the incredible people who open their hearts and homes to pets in need. Fostering gives homeless animals a safe place to learn, grow, heal, and prepare for their forever families.

Whether you're fostering your first kitten, helping a senior dog feel loved, or supporting a local rescue in any way, you're making a life-changing difference.

Thinking about fostering? Local rescue organizations are always looking for compassionate families willing to provide temporary care. Even a few weeks in a foster home can have a lasting impact on a pet's future.

Join us in thanking all of the amazing foster families in our community! ❤️

Dogs experience the world through scent in a way we can’t fully imagine. They have up to 300 million scent receptors, compared to about 6 million in humans, which means smells carry much more information for them.

What seems gross to us is often fascinating and informative to them. It’s completely normal behavior, even if it makes us question their choices.

Hot summer pavement can burn your pet’s paw pads faster than you might think ☀️🐾

If the pavement feels too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Asphalt and concrete can quickly cause painful burns, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

To help keep your pets safe this summer:
• Walk during early mornings or evenings
• Stick to grass or shaded paths when possible
• Watch for limping or excessive paw licking after walks
• Never leave pets standing on hot pavement

A little extra caution can help keep those paws happy and healthy all summer long!

Cats typically need about 3.5–4.5 oz per 5 lbs of body weight daily but many don’t drink enough on their own. Water fountains, wet food, and multiple bowls can help!

💧 Is your dog drinking enough water? A good rule of thumb: about 1 oz per pound of body weight daily. But things like heat, activity, and diet can change that! Noticing big changes in thirst? That can be a sign something’s up. Let’s check it out: (512) 441-3192

A cat’s nose print is completely unique, much like a human fingerprint. The tiny ridges and patterns on their nose create a one-of-a-kind identifier.

Changes in the appearance or texture of the nose can sometimes reflect hydration or overall health, so it’s always worth paying attention to what’s normal for your cat. Noticing changes? Call us: (512) 441-3192

A dog’s reaction to guests can tell us a lot about their comfort level and behavior. Reactions like barking, hiding, or guarding can be linked to anxiety, lack of socialization, or protective instincts. Understanding those signals can help prevent stress and create safer interactions for everyone.

🔥🍔 BBQ Weekend Reminder: Not All Cookout Foods Are Pet Safe! 🐾
As you fire up the grill this weekend, don’t forget that some popular BBQ foods can be dangerous for pets. 🚫🐶
Keep these away from curious noses:
🌭 Corn cobs
🍖 Cooked bones
🧅 Onions & garlic
🍫 Chocolate desserts
🍺 Alcohol
🥑 Fatty scraps & greasy foods
Even the sweetest pups can end up with upset stomachs—or an emergency visit—after sneaking a holiday snack.
Instead, treat your pet to something safe like pet-friendly treats while they enjoy the festivities with the family. ❤️
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend from all of us at Bluebonnet!
