Copperheads, a common venomous snake in Central Texas, are known for their distinctive copper-colored heads. They are pit vipers, meaning they have heat-sensing pits between their eyes and nostrils that help them locate prey. While copperheads can be dangerous if bitten, they are generally shy and prefer to avoid confrontation. Their camouflage allows them to blend in with their surroundings, making them difficult to spot. If you encounter a copperhead, it is best to give it space and avoid disturbing it.
