🐾 World Rabies Day is September 28th! 🐾

Rabies is 100% preventable, but it's also 100% fatal once symptoms appear — that's why vaccination isn't just a formality; it's life-saving. Here in Texas, rabies is still found in wildlife like bats, skunks, and foxes, which means our pets are at real risk if they're not protected.

✅ Vaccinate your pets — it's the single best way to keep them safe for life
✅ Protect your family — rabies can spread from pets to people, and keeping your pet current on vaccines is a frontline defense

Not sure if your furry friend is up to date? We're here to help! Give us a call or book an appointment at circlecanimalhospital.com, and let's make sure your pet is protected. 🐶🐱

This month, we had the honor of hosting Elizabeth for a "Vet for a Day" experience! Dr. Duncan donated this experience to Regents School of Austin for a raffle benefiting their scholarship program.
Elizabeth spent the day observing surgery, assisting with exams, and asking all the right questions. We think TAMU's School of Veterinary Medicine should reserve her a spot now!

Pet parents: you may have seen recent news reports about the New World screwworm, a parasite that has recently been detected in parts of the southern United States.

New World screwworm is the larval stage of a fly that lays eggs in open wounds or body openings. The larvae feed on living tissue, which can lead to serious infections if left untreated. This parasite can affect livestock, wildlife, pets, and, in rare cases, people.

While this news can be unsettling, there are several steps pet owners can take to help reduce risk. Certain veterinarian-recommended parasite prevention medications (like Nexgard, Simparica Trio, or Credelio Quattro) may provide an added layer of protection against the New World screwworm for pets. While no preventive product can guarantee protection against New World screwworm, parasite control, along with prompt attention to wounds & skin issues, are among the best ways to help protect your pet.

We highly recommend regularly checking your pet for wounds, skin irritation, or signs of discomfort, especially if they spend time outdoors. If you notice a wound on your pet, please contact us immediately!

This serves as a good reminder of the importance of routine wellness exams, especially during the summer months when your pet is spending more time outside. If you happen to notice anything unusual or have concerns about your pet's health, don't hesitate to bring them in for a check-up. When in doubt, our team is here to help in any way we can.
