Yeti came home from training this spring with an injury which put him behind where I hoped he would be. We trained hard all summer long to catch up and with him now 21 months old it was time to get him in the field. His first couple honker hunts in MN were slow but the last 2 days he has retrieved a bunch of geese and as you can see he’s got a bunch of retrieves. He’s done an incredible job!

My goal this year is to share more of the stories behind my time in the outdoors. The gun in this picture was passed on to my dad and I by a gentleman who passed away in February this year. Though I knew him only a short time we shared a love of waterfowl hunting and gun dogs. I wish we would could have a few more conversations to talk about him working for a field trial lab trainer that had trained multiple national champions, his competitive trap shooting career and all the waterfowl hunts from days past.

I would never be content letting his old guns collect dust and the opening of our early goose season this weekend was the perfect time for this gun and I to start our story. Though we were not as successful as we hoped I know Steve would be proud to know this gun is still taking down birds. Here’s to opening weekend and keeping the tradition alive!

A 3-man limit in 45 min on opening day would not have been possible without the Alweld 1752 mud hull and the 37 EFI. The dog (yellow lab!!!) was the only one not impressed that we were hunting in 2” of water.
