To feel loved and know they are safe…

If we can that do one thing for our dogs, most who come from heartbreaking pasts, then we have succeeded.

We can say wholeheartedly that we know that Manny felt so loved & knew what it was to finally feel safe. 🥹 No matter how long we had with him. 💔

Everything happened so fast last weekend…we’ve barely had time to catch our breath.

None of our team ever really takes a break & almost every team member is also a multi-dog foster parent on top of everything else. But finally, our foster coordinator was able to get away for a few days and take a well deserved break to the west coast.

Manny stayed at home with family members who are his usual daily best buds & nothing was out of the ordinary.

But on the last day of her trip, we got news that Manny had collapsed, panting heavily & unwilling to stand, gums pale pink. Something was very wrong.

He was rushed to the ER. We all feared the worst — was cancer back again?

Manny had beat it 3 times. Mass cell cancer & an amputation upon rescue. Later, a tumor on his spleen and liver and removal of the spleen & portion of the liver. Two more different types of cancer. But both very slow growing & rarely return.

His prognosis was excellent & again he went back to thriving.

Until last weekend.

Manny’s scans showed fluid in his abdomen & bacteria — a septic abdomen & we couldn’t tell why; the only obvious thing were masses over his liver. After more tests & emergency consults with our oncologist options were limited & his condition was worsening.

He held on in time for his foster mama to land & immediately tried to go to the door to leave. On his potty break he sat in front of her car & refused to get up. Manny HATES the vet.
He had been panting & shaking nonstop until she arrived. We knew we couldn’t say goodbye there.

Armed with meds & a morning appt scheduled with our mobile vet, Manny went home that night. He was cuddled all night & told how much he was loved. We said goodbye peacefully at home the next morning…where he felt the safest.

We’ll love you always little fighter. 💙😭

Today, we lost an absolutely amazing human… one who had an energy larger than life and brought so much joy to our team and our animals.

Fuaad has been part of our vet medical team since 2023 at Southwest Vet and there wasn’t an interaction that would go by with a team member or foster parent that didn’t leave you with a smile.

From the energetic HELLO!👏 anytime they’d see our number calling in — “What new dog is it today?!” to the constant support, love and enthusiasm for every animal and case.

Fuaad following along with every pup’s story and on Monday mornings often knew which dog we were calling in about from that weekend’s adventures before we could even say.🥹

On the last slide you’ll see Fuaad’s two faves of all time — Grace and Goose. If they didn’t have a house full, we are pretty sure they would have snagged Grace the one eared wonder. 😉

Fuaad had beaten leukemia once and gut wrenchingly was diagnosed a second time over a year ago. Even while in the hospital this entire time, we’d get update messages and requests for pup photos. Their zest for life never stopped and we were all so hopeful that Fuaad would get the chance to get back to life.

During this last year, with Fuaad unable to work and their mom stopping her job to support, their family has undergone significant financial strain and now face even more.

We’re sharing the family fundraiser and would be so grateful if you’d consider a donation to it in Fuaad’s honor. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-ajaz-family-after-fuaads-passing

Hug your pup (or cat!) today for Fuaad. 💙 Life is much too short.

🥹 A collective sigh of relief as we can finally say Chloe is in the clear.

Everything happened so fast and we wish we had a solid answer of why it happened & be able to tell you ways to prevent it from happening to you and your pups, but sadly we don’t.

Last week Chloe went outside for 5 minutes to potty, she came inside & her foster mom was gone for not even two hours after.

When she left everything was normal, Chloe had normal energy, no symptoms or side effects of anything.

But when she returned, she found Chloe collapsed on the floor and trails of stool and urine around her as if she’d lost control of her bowels. While she looked up when her name was called, she could barely stand & her eyes were glossed over and gums pale.

By the time she arrived at the hospital, blood was pouring out of her rear and continued for the next 24 hours.

Her heart rate was over 230 bpm & they immediately administered epinephrine after an ultrasound showing haloing around the gallbladder which is conducive with an anaphylactic reaction.

Her bloodwork showed that her clotting times were off and she needed an emergency plasma transfusion & hospitalization.

To this day we were unable to find a bite on her body, there is no foreign object or substance found in the house, Chloe does not get into the trash, and there is nothing visible in the yard.

While it was most likely a bug bite of some kind, not even the doctors can tell us. Could it have been a runoff from a pesticide? Could it have been a devil’s cap mushroom? A spider?

Again, we wish we knew. We wish we could warn you. It was touching go for a bit and Chloe fought hard. 😭

She stayed for two days & was finally released after she showed that she could eat and drink again. She had some lethargy & incontinence for the first couple of days but is now slowly back to her normal energy levels.

This unplanned emergency cost $5,700. We raised approx $1650 of that so far.

We made a separate fundraiser for the remainder of Chloe’s bill if you’d like to support:

😭 Chloe needs an emergency plasma transfusion.

Upon arrival at the ER, her blood loss increased dramatically and her heart rate skyrocketed to 230 bpm. The VEG team rushed her to the back to begin diagnostics.

After an ultrasound they let us know that the most likely situation is that she’s having an anaphylactic reaction to something. Unless we can find a physical bite on her, there’s no telling what it’s from. We’re just so thankful her foster mama arrived home when she did.

Her initial estimate was $2500 for hospitalization for the next 24 hours, medications, fluids, epinephrine etc. but they let us know the first round of labs could change everything. They just came back. And it did.

Her clotting values are off, and her blood is being described as the consistency of a milkshake right now. She’s not able to oxygen her blood and get what she needs for her body to fight the histamine response. She needs a plasma transfusion now.

The current estimate is now $4,000.

The clinic is out of plasma but locating some at a sister clinic right now.

🙏Please help us help sweet Chloe fight.🙏

Something is wrong with our foster dog Chloe & we’re en route to the ER now! 😭🙏

Our team member arrived home after just a short time out and Chloe was laying down clearly out of it and has gone to the bathroom all over herself. She has blood coming out and is lethargic and vomiting.

There’s nothing known that she’s gotten into and overall has been very healthy.

We won’t know more about what’s going on until we get to . We will post updates and estimates soon.🙏

🥹Our swirly brindle mastiff Jethro (now Courage) has secured his very own happy ending!

Dumped on a ranch with neighbors fearful that he may “eat them”🫠😂, our team was called out to rescue him. We brought gear just in case, but had a sneaking suspicion he’d be a hand capture. 😉

Slow approaches and some beef treats and we’d won him over. (although he was still a little suspicious at first)

He was underweight and had been outside for weeks after several rounds of big, scary storms. His foster family (and his 3 XXL foster siblings) helped him acclimate to the good life.

When they traveled, one of our amazing supporters who had recently lost a pup stepped up to welcome him in and help both of them on their healing journeys. 🥹

He landed an amazing adoptive family and now lives life with his tripod Boxer sister, Jinx! They are quite the duo and our swirly tiger is forever loved.

Thank you so much to everyone who played a role in getting him here. 💙

Cheers to Courage!🏡🐾 (the former cowardly dog😉)

🥹 Talk about the livin’ the dream life!

Our sweet boy Boots hit the jackpot with his dad. Check out these amazing shots from their cross country adventure. 📸From the snowy mountaintops to the white sands, Boots has now seen a lot more than most Texas pups!

His dad had been looking for new handsome brindle family member and landed on the cutest Boots. 🫶

They are best buds and we know that Boots is set with his happy ending!

Thank you so much to his dad Mitch for choosing adoption and TRAPRS. 💙

🥹 The giant puppy who still thinks she’s a dachshund!

Aggie was dumped months back at a dog park… with her 6 other siblings — dubbed the “Easton Park 7”.

Since she was much smaller at this time, Aggie didn’t realize she wasn’t going to always be the same size as her foster siblings, a pair of adorable dachshunds, forever. She was named Agatha-All-Along-Legs and she kept growing… and growing… and growing!😂

While she did have some interest from others, her foster family has decided that she’s already home.

Aggie (and her long legs) now spends her days playing with her two best friends and lounging in the sunshine. We think she hit the jackpot and we bet she’d agree.👏

A huge thank you to her amazing family for nursing her back to health and loving her as she grew into this beautiful happy girl!

Happy forever, Aggie! 💙🥹
