Ever had a dog greet you like you’ve been gone for YEARS???

Jumping isn’t your dog being “bad.” It’s excitement with nowhere to go — and if it gets attention (even a “no!” or a laugh), you’ve just told them it worked.

👉 DON’T REWARD THE JUMP — talking, touching, or eye contact all count as attention, even the negative kind
👉 GIVE THEM A JOB — ask for a SIT or send them to PLACE the second they get excited
👉 REWARD THE CALM — praise and treats go to four-on-the-floor, not the leap
👉 STAY CONSISTENT — every person, every entrance, every time (this is where most households fall apart)

✨ A calm greeting isn’t something dogs are born with — it’s something we teach, one rep at a time.

“WHO’S AT THE DOOR?!” (the age-old question your dog answers at full volume)

You know the drill — doorbell rings, dog loses it, and suddenly you’re apologizing to your visitor over the sound of your own dog. It’s not that your dog is “bad,” they just don’t have a job to do in that moment except sound the alarm. Place gives them one.

👉 STEP 1: USE THE LEASH TO GUIDE THEM TO THE PLACEMAT — it’s the clearest form of communication with your dog and makes the command easier for them to understand
👉 STEP 2: REWARD WHEN ALL 4 PAWS HIT THE SURFACE, marking the moment they land
👉 STEP 3: ADD DURATION before you release — a few seconds, then longer, building calm on cue
👉 STEP 4: PRACTICE WITH REAL DISTRACTIONS, like someone actually walking through the door

Once Place is solid, “who’s at the door?!?!?!?!?” turns into “I think I may have heard a knock” — and that’s a beautiful thing.

✨ A calm greeter isn’t born, they’re built one rep at a time.
