Listen. You love your dog so much. Half of your phone’s storage space is dedicated to pictures of them. They have a bed in every room, and you can’t believe how many toys you’ve bought them.
But they WON’T STOP [insert the unwanted behavior of the hour]! They’re always looking for acorns the eat in the backyard! They pull the used tissues out of your bathroom trash and turn them into confetti in the middle of the living room! They turn your kiddo’s favorite stuffed animal into a flurry of stuffing of tears! WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS, EVEN WHEN YOU TELL THEM NO?!?!
Friends, it’s because your dog has unmet doggy needs, and they have to get that energy out somehow. Some dogs love to dig, some love to forage, some love to shred. These are built-in behaviors dogs come into the world needing to do!
Unfortunately for them, most of those innate behaviors aren’t very compatible with our homes. But removing access to the unsanctioned fun they create isn’t the end of the story. That’s just leaving all that lightning in your dog! (Not a sentence I ever thought I’d write 😂)
The great news is: when we give them similar, human-approved alternatives, we start to see those nuisance behaviors disappear! Their human is noticing what they need, and then GIVING IT TO THEM 🤯 And all you have to do is pick up the cardboard box you let them destroy and drop it in the recycling bin.
