Halloween lands on a Saturday this year. That means a whole evening of doorbells, a candy bowl by the door and a street full of small superheroes, on the one night your front door barely stays shut. 🎃
🐾 The candy. Pet Poison Helpline calls rise about 12 percent during Halloween week. Chocolate gets worse the darker it is, xylitol hides in anything sugar free, and raisins and wrappers cause their own trouble. Keep the bowl up high and sort the haul at the table. If your dog eats something, call ASPCA Animal Poison Control at 888 426 4435 right away.
🐾 The front door. Every doorbell is a chance to bolt. Settle your dog in a quiet room before the first knock, put a gate or a leash between them and the door, or hand out candy from the porch.
🐾 The costume. If your dog freezes or wriggles, skip it and grab a bandana. If they love it, try it on early, skip the small parts and never leave them alone in it. Glow sticks, candles and carved pumpkins go up off the floor.
🐾 The tag. Read it this week. Is the number current? Then log in to your microchip registry and check that too. A chip only helps if it leads back to you.
An engraved collar puts your number right on the band, with no tag to fall off. Made to order here in Austin.
The full guide is on The Dog Post. 🐾
Save this for the 31st and send it to the friend who leaves the candy bowl on the coffee table.
