Appreciation post for Rocky aka Rickyboy "da old man" Rick-olantern.
Rocky was the kind of dog that was doing okay living in a shelter but didn't show well for adopters. He would parkour off his kennel walls, zoom around the yard, and generally ignore the people in the yard with him. He had a lot of nervous energy to burn and anxiety and curiosity just don't mix. But when I brought him home for sleepovers on cold nights he was a big, sleepy, cuddly couch potato and no matter how much I tried to show potential adopters this side of him they couldn't connect with him. So, I decided to foster him as soon as I was in an apartment that would allow dogs. Lee, my fiance, immediately fell in love with him and refused to put on "adopt me" gear so we decided to make it official and keep him.
7 years later and here he is, loving life, going for walkies, helping me with reactive dogs in lessons, and being a sunbathing tank of sweetness and perfection. I love this old man so much he's taught me more than he will ever know.
I don't know how much time he has left with us now. He's showing signs of aging and slowing down a bit but I aim to give him all the things that make him happy and healthy.
