Let the dogs run a muck at Devil’s Garden.

The older I get, the more I realize how much bigger my dogs make my world.

I don’t think I would’ve pushed this hard for this trip if it wasn’t for them.

Truth is, mental health can be a real bitch sometimes. Even when you’re living a life you’ve dreamed about, it can still be hard to get yourself out the van door.

My dogs have so much ā€œgoā€ it really helps me get out of the fog and run!

They give me a reason to go explore one more trail.
Check out one more viewpoint.
Take the longer route.
See what’s around the next corner.

They experience the world with so much curiosity that it’s hard not to get caught up in it.

They help me see the magic again.

My world is a whole lot bigger than it would’ve been without them.

If you would’ve told me 3 months ago I’d be letting Doobie run around the wilderness off leash, I would’ve told you you’re high.

When we got Doobie, we found him running around the desert in Joshua Tree. Jordan ended up catching him with a Starbucks pup cup, which honestly tells you everything you need to know about the dog.

Ever since then, we’ve chased him through the desert more times than I can count. To Doobie, the game always seemed to be: how fast can I run without looking back?

A few months ago I thought I had finally gotten through to him. He was doing great on the long line, responding well, and I figured we were ready.

So I took the line off.

Some of you probably remember what happened next.

He took off.

Completely.

So seeing him turn around and come flying back to me from this far away, with no e-collar taps, no nagging, and definitely no chasing him, feels like a dream come true.

I finally get to let him GO.

His favorite thing in the world is chasing Ellie as fast as his little legs will carry him until he can’t anymore. Then he finds a patch of dirt, crashes, and sleeps like he’s been working a full-time job.

For a long time, I tried to give him that freedom by taking him on runs. The problem was I was never fast enough. We’d always end up settling into a jog.

I don’t think that was enough for him.

Now I get to watch him actually open up and run.

On this trip, his world has gotten so much bigger. The amount of places he’s been able to explore, sprint through, and just be a dog has made every frustrating training session worth it.

What a full-circle moment.

We went from chasing him through the desert…

to watching him run back to me in the desert.

Good boy, Doobie.

Today marks 13 years together with my best friend! The OG adventure dog. There are too many things to say about this pup for just one post. I’ll be making a YouTube all about him soon. He is the reason for everything I do. He saved my life 13 years ago and since that day we’ve been partners on the road. Calling so many places, houses, vehicles, etc. home. My home is anywhere he feels happy to cover it in his thick black fur. Today we spent some time in the van and he was so peaceful on our new bed. I know this next chapter is going to be an adventure of a life time, and having him as my copilot is such a blessing. Here’s to you Ba’cho! The second picture is the day I begged my grandpa to let me take him home and all of his firsts. His first crate, name tag, ride in the car, first bath, first day at work with me… he’s one bad ass of a dog. And had forever opened up and changed my world.
