Today marks 13 years together with my best friend! The OG adventure dog. There are too many things to say about this pup for just one post. I’ll be making a YouTube all about him soon. He is the reason for everything I do. He saved my life 13 years ago and since that day we’ve been partners on the road. Calling so many places, houses, vehicles, etc. home. My home is anywhere he feels happy to cover it in his thick black fur. Today we spent some time in the van and he was so peaceful on our new bed. I know this next chapter is going to be an adventure of a life time, and having him as my copilot is such a blessing. Here’s to you Ba’cho! The second picture is the day I begged my grandpa to let me take him home and all of his firsts. His first crate, name tag, ride in the car, first bath, first day at work with me… he’s one bad ass of a dog. And had forever opened up and changed my world.

Most people skip straight to the end goal
and wonder why their training doesn’t hold up on a trail.

The truth is this stuff takes rep after rep in the environments you plan to be in.
My advice is to stick to a simple plan and start making training fit into your daily life. Next thing you know…
you’ve got a dog you can adventure with anywhere!

That’s the goal.

If you want help putting the pieces together, I’ve got a free community where I break all this down. Shoot me a DM and I’ll send it over šŸ¤

I created a business little me would be proud of.

That kid still runs the show.
Answers the DMs.
Shows up to every session.
Talks about your dog like it’s my own.

I grew up in this.
Building a career and a community around dogs and adventure was never a question.

Y’all know I love me a poodle! I got to hang out with Mr Luxe today and start reworking his foundations. He’s only 9 months old and already a bad ass! So stoked to see what him and his momma get up to as we progress both of their skills.

I used to train dogs to just be ā€œobedient.ā€

Telling them what to do. When to do it. Correcting every little thing.
Always managing. Always hovering.

It never felt calm.
It never felt like a partnership.

The dogs were technically trained…
but still restless.
Still stressed.
Still struggling inside the life we were asking them to live.

So I changed the goal.

I stopped training for rules and started training for life.

For trails.
For road trips.
For coffee shops.
For quiet nights at home and big days outside.

And everything changed.

Dogs stopped pacing the house because they finally had something to look forward to.
They came home calmer because their bodies and brains were actually used.
They started checking in with their people instead of tuning them out.
New places stopped feeling scary because they learned how to move through the world with confidence.

And most importantly, they got to live bigger, happier lives with their humans.

I still teach a few basic commands.
But now it’s about communication, not control.
Feedback, not micromanaging.

When you adventure together like this, dogs learn how to live in your world.
And you get to stop managing every moment of their day.

Training isn’t about forcing dogs to fit into society.
It’s about giving them a life that actually makes sense to them.

If you’ve ever felt like your dog wants more,
you’re probably right.

Trying to train that out of them won’t work.
But giving them a clear, shared life will.

That’s what adventure training is really about.

If you’ve felt this before, you’re not alone.
Comment ā€œPATHā€ and we’ll talk next steps.

If you want a dog that’s calm at home, great on walks, and able to listen to you no matter what’s going on, you should be training an adventure dog.

When you train for adventure, life with your dog starts to get bigger. You stop tiptoeing around what might go wrong and start stepping into what could be possible. The boundaries you didn’t even realize were holding you back slowly fall away, and your life opens up.

When you make that shift in your training you’ll get a dog that can handle new places, new environments, and real life with you by their side.

If this sounds like the kind of life you have been wanting to live with your dog, follow along. And if you’re ready to stop waiting for the ā€œperfectā€ moment and make the change, jump into our Adventure Dog Foundations community and step-by-step course. Link in bio or comment ADVENTURE below šŸ‘‡Your perfect adventure won’t magically fall into your lap because you put it on your 2026 vision board. You have to train for it. Make this your first step into making your goals a reality. šŸ•ā›°ļø

SAY WHAT YOU MEAN & MEAN WHAT YOU SAY. šŸ‘€

If sometimes ā€œcomeā€ means come all the way back to me…
and sometimes ā€œcomeā€ means just get a little closer…
your dog is going to start choosing the easier option.

So on the day you really need that full recall?
You’re probably getting the half-way version. And that’s on us, not them.

If you want nuance in your training, train the nuance in.
I use COME for my full recall and HERE when I need my dog to close the gap. Two different words, two different expectations. No confusion.

Clear language → clear behavior.
Confusing language → a dog who’s ā€œnot listening.ā€

If you want an adventure buddy who actually responds the way you expect, it starts with tightening up your communication. That’s why I only teach 4 core commands—simple, clean, reliable.

Want my blueprint for building a dog who listens on every trail, summit, and campsite?
Comment šŸ”„ below and I’ll reach out.

Been feeling sick, so our adventures lately have been: Adventures in Fashion. šŸ¤§šŸ˜Ž

Ellie has become such a solid dog because we spend a ton of time making sure she gets the fulfillment she actually needs — hiking, off-leash squirrel hunting, tree climbing… all the good stuff.

Over the last year we’ve shifted from strict ā€œobedienceā€ to adventure-specific training, and she has flourished. She’s calmer at home, more focused in busy environments, and I have zero worries when we’re out exploring together.

I never realized how much training for the outdoors would impact our everyday life — but we’re never going back. 🌲✨

Low energy day, but we still gotta show up for our dogs! Come along with me while I take Newton out for some training. I’m thankful he’s the kind of dog who finds the environment extremely rewarding, so I don’t have to be super on or produce a ton of rewards myself today.

When we understand the type of dog we have, everything gets easier — training, adventuring, and honestly just living together.

Do you know what kind of dog you have? šŸ•āœØ
