Resident of the Week: Meet Buddha! 🐴❤️

🌄 Buddha is a senior horse who spent many years as a trusted trail horse. The countless miles she carried riders can be seen in her swayback, a quiet reminder of lasting tolls bestowed upon her.

🥰 Now enjoying a slower pace at the sanctuary, Buddha is mellow, thoughtful, and full of quiet affection. She loves spending time with her caregivers and will often nuzzle gently before resting her head on your shoulder and drifting peacefully to sleep.

🍪 One of Buddha’s greatest joys is her little pony friend, Cookie. The two can often be found slowly grazing side by side, moving together in perfect unison around the field. As evening settles in, they find a cozy spot to groom each other before settling in for the night.

💛 After years of giving so much to others, Buddha now gets to enjoy the comfort, friendship, and gentle love she so deeply deserves.

🥕 Buddha's diet and hoof care is $30 monthly.

🐮😏🎵 Did you know Annie weighs over 1,000 lbs? That’s about the same as a grand piano! Guess that makes her a MOO-sician...

Resident of the Week: Meet Xena! 🐴♥️

💛 Xena is a senior donkey with a heart of gold.

🤝 She came to us in 2016 when her family had to move and sadly couldn’t take her along. Since arriving at the sanctuary, Xena has become a beloved part of the herd and a friend to everyone she meets, both donkey and horse alike.

📣 If you hear a loud bray echoing over the hills, chances are Xena has spotted humans approaching and is requesting attention immediately. She absolutely loves being spoiled and is always excited for pets, brushing sessions, or a few veggie treats. This is one girl who is always happy to see you.

🛡️ But Xena is more than just sweet, she’s also a fierce protector. She is constantly on alert for predators that don’t belong near her herd. We’ve watched her confidently lead the other donkeys as they chased coyotes right out of the pastures. She and her donkey friends play an important role in helping keep everyone safe.

🌅 Xena’s gentle heart, joyful spirit, and protective nature make her truly one of a kind, and we are so grateful she gets to spend her golden years surrounded by love, friendship, and peace.

🥕Gypsy's diet and hoof care is $30 monthly.
Sponsorship is available for Xena the sweetheart!

Happy ! 🐄🐔🐖 Today, we're celebrating the mud-loving playful spirits of the farm: Pigs! 💕🐖

Pigs get a bad reputation for being messy, but the truth is way sweeter than the stereotype. Pigs can barely sweat at all, which is exactly why they roll in mud. The mud cools them down, works as sunscreen, and keeps the bugs off.

Beyond that, pigs are very smart (some studies say smarter than dogs), form real bonds with each other and with the humans who care for them, and yes, they absolutely nap belly-up in the sun like they don't have a single care in the world.

So here's to the sweet souls who remind us that a little dirt never hurt anybody. 🐷💛

This week we're celebrating Farm Animal Awareness Week: a reminder that every animal here is an individual, not livestock. Meet Gypsy. 🐴❤️

🙃 Gypsy is a well-mannered girl who enjoys her horse friends and the freedom to simply be her unapologetic self. Some days she comes up for long snuggles, and other days she gives you a look that clearly says, “I’m not peopling today.” Luckily for Gypsy, she has the freedom to choose exactly how she wants to spend her days at our farm sanctuary.

🩹 Before finding safety here, Gypsy was abandoned on the side of the road with chronic navicular disease, a condition that left her unable to be ridden. Thankfully, with targeted and regular hoof care that helps reduce pressure on the coffin bone in her foot, Gypsy is now comfortable, pain-free, and able to enjoy life on her own terms.

💚 Whether she’s relaxing with her horse friends or soaking up affection when the mood strikes, Gypsy now has what every horse deserves; comfort, freedom, and the chance to simply be loved.

🥕Gypsy's diet and hoof care is $30 monthly.
Sponsorship is available for unique Gypsy the horse!

Gypsy isn't just "a horse." She's Gypsy. That's what this week is all about.

Happy Farm Animal Awareness Week! Today, we're celebrating the clever little dinosaurs of the farm: Chickens!

Chickens don't get nearly enough credit. They're curious, social, and surprisingly sharp, capable of recognizing over 100 different faces (human and chicken alike) and remembering them long after. Each one has her own personality too, some are bold and bossy, others are shy and sweet, and every flock has its own little pecking-order politics playing out all day long.

Then there's the joy of a good dust bath, a chicken's version of a spa day, where they fluff up dirt and toss it through their feathers to keep pests away and feathers healthy. Add in their love of sunbathing, foraging, and different clucks for different occasions, and you've got one seriously incredible farm animal.

So here's to the clucking, scratching, sunbathing sweethearts who prove that a big personality really can come in a small package. 🐔💛

What makes sanctuary life different? 🤔

As part of National Farm Animal Awareness Week, we wanted to share a little about the differences between an animal at a sanctuary and an animal raised on a factory farm.

On a factory farm, animals are raised with a specific output in mind: meat, milk, or eggs. Along with that output comes a quota and a timeline. They're often confined to spaces barely larger than their own bodies, and when they're no longer productive, an animal’s life ends.

At a sanctuary, there is no timeline. Animals get the chance to simply live out their lives, with space to roam and the freedom to do what comes naturally, such as dust bathing and wallowing.

That's why Rupert gets to stay with his mom instead of being separated within hours of birth. That's why Annie, at 11 years old, still gets to just be a cow.

This is why sanctuaries exist. We believe every animal, regardless of species, deserves to be treated as an individual. Because every life has inherent value.
