Did you know Fleece and Feather Farms has Cayuga ducks. They often get ignored on the farm as they hang with our barnyard chickens and happily play in puddles when we get a lot of rain. We kept away from ducks for a long time from critics spouting that they were filthy, mess makers but we havent had an issue with them since they are free range. Anyway, once you have quail you know messy and these ducks don't seem to be any messier than our chickens. These ducks can lay a black egg and while we have had them laying for over a year this is our very blackest egg we have recieved. Our oldest son almost stepped on it blended into the ground so well. Here are some of the other duck eggs we have for comparison.

To celebrate 250 years of America we decided to produce a brand new breed of chicken.

Introducing the American Giant Chicken

Line developed by Dake Boys Birds at Fleece & Feather Farm
The American Giant is a large, calm dual-purpose chicken being developed for homesteads and small farms. These birds combine impressive size with good egg production and a gentle temperament, making them a great all-around farm bird.

Key Traits

Size
American Giants are a very large breed. Young roosters at 6–7 months of age are already larger than many mature roosters of other breeds, showing strong growth and frame.

Temperament

Calm
Docile
Easy to manage
Good for mixed farm flocks

Egg Production

Hens are good layers for such a large bird.
Egg Color
Eggs range from peach to pink to tan.

Color
Birds display a distinctive ermine / splash-style pattern in black or blue, creating a striking appearance in the flock.

Leg Color

Legs are typically slate to blue and sturdy enough to support the breed’s large frame.

Purpose

The American Giant is being developed as a homestead-friendly dual-purpose bird that provides:
Large size
Good egg production
Calm temperament
Strong growth

Development

This is a developing line being selectively bred for consistency in size, temperament, egg color, and overall productivity.
With its black, blue, and white coloration, the American Giant may even represent America’s true bird — red, white, and blue.

We are working to add a couple new Chicken Breeds to the farm.
The Russian Orloff:

Appearance: They are large (6-7 lbs) with a game-like, upright carriage. The most popular variety is the "Spangled" (orange/black/white mix), though white and black varieties exist.

Hardiness: They are exceptionally cold-hardy, making them ideal for northern climates.

Temperament: Generally calm, quiet, and friendly, though they can be independent.

Production: They are considered a dual-purpose bird (meat and eggs), typically laying around 100-150 cream-colored eggs per year.

Status: While they were considered endangered in the US, their status has improved to "Threatened".

Our false spring has yielded 7 baby lambs so far, with 5 girls. We also got our very first goose egg (about time these birds do something positive besides protect our castle from evil 😂). This is a Toulouse goose egg which comes from a large, meaty bird originally from France. They are cold hardy and generally calm in nature. They produce meat and down. Compared to a Canadian goose these geese put their size to shame. This goose egg is pictured with a large chicken egg. This means very soon we should have Toulouse goslings for sale. They only lay 25-40 eggs a year so these babies will be a very precious commodity.
