Little bit on helping to fulfill your dog. Begins with window guarding. There’s many a subject in this video and he’ll I might watch it tomorrow and see how unprofessional it is and have to take it down. But it’s a little real reel straight from the mouth spurred by a question and ran on into the bigger picture. Love me hate me it doesn’t matter, this is dogs.

Just enjoying some follow games at the park. Bringing it in at the end for a little treat just because.

The word “No.” I find it peculiar that there’s a trend where people are afraid to use a word that can save a dog’s life.

This dog comes out for day school twice a week. He has a flat collar on and some sort of electronic collar that they have recently been bringing him in with. But there’s no remote and the box is like 3” away from his neck so it’s just jewelry. His response is entirely verbal and has been for a few months. We did go thru a few e collar sessions once he was able to work at a distance, he needed remarkably few and the training has been reliably effective. Going back and looking at this video I saw the box on his neck and figured I should clarify. Making videos first person is tough because you don’t see that my hands are empty here and I didn’t record this with the intent of posting.

How long does it take one dog to irritate another dog?

Just dinkin around with the dogs at the end of the day like usual and decided to throw out a note in response to a phone call I received.

If I let one dog continue to irritate another dog, then that dog is eventually going to have to tell the irritator to knock it off in their own way. This can lead to fights and also require my dogs to maintain order amongst themselves which can also be problematic.

It’s my job as ‘pack manager’ if you will, to maintain order amongst the group. I let Douglas (the little black and white) get away with a bit more the first couple kicks I recorded so you can see how quickly he starts to bark and chase. I’ve used this skill of his to build drive in other dogs so it is useful to me and not something I want to extinguish.

That being said, I cannot allow him to just bark and chase large, powerful dogs when they are going after their own toy. I also don’t tolerate toy stealing or swapping. So this video was just to show that it’s important to maintain order amongst the group versus letting them work it out themselves.

Be the leader. Let them trust they are safe when you are there. Make sure they respect your boundaries not only for yourself but for each of them as well.

Check out this beautiful body language! The black dog Captain doing his best to get Otis (the Aussie) to play with him. Once Otis showed that he just wasn’t quite comfortable to play with a guy with that much intensity Captain showed him that that was ok too. He gave him his space, calmed down and disengaged. Captain has a a bit of a checkered past with dogs, the very reason he’s with us. Watching how far he’s come makes me so happy, every time. It’s so cool to see how he’s beginning to actually help other dogs feel welcome, use beautiful clear body language in so many ways with so many different dogs and also lead by example for some unruly dogs to help them dial it down and ease up a bit. Heluva dog. He’s a strong dog, with intense actions sometimes and as you can see here sometimes it’s too much for a softer unsure dog. But he keeps himself in check and does his darnedest to be the best good boy.

What do I do about jumping? Exactly what you see in the video.

What if I have a brand new Puppy that doesn’t understand this? Then I would make the variation of petting them when they do have their feet on the ground. But after the first few reps of that, it will quickly move into what you see in the video.

What if the youngster has fun jumping and dashing? Then after what you see here in the video, I would then grab the drag line that is attached and continue with the consequence until the dog changes his state of emotion from a jokester to a slightly subdued calmer state.

What if the dog is older and has a long history of this? Then I would follow through with the description just above this one.

Important note: notice I do not lavish praise and Pet the dog once he has his feet on the ground. This is counterintuitive and will not get the jumping to stop. Also noticed I don’t turn away from the dog. I stay facing the dog instead of giving the dog more space by turning away or moving away. Conversely, I get the dog to give me a bit more space instead.
