🩺 What Does Triage Mean at Urgent Care?

We’ve recently had more pet parents ask what “triage” means and what it means for their pet.

At Atlas Veterinary Urgent Care, every pet is triaged when they arrive. Our team checks important vital signs—such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature—and gathers information about your pet’s condition and history. This helps us determine how urgently they need to be seen.

We understand that waiting can be difficult when your pet isn’t feeling well. While we schedule arrival times to help reduce wait times, an arrival time does not guarantee your pet will be seen by a veterinarian at that exact time.

If a critical emergency arrives, our team must immediately prioritize that patient. This means pets with less urgent needs may have to wait while we stabilize and care for the critical patient.

Please know that we are not forgetting about your pet. Our team is constantly reassessing patients and prioritizing care based on medical need.
