There have been confirmed EHV/EHM cases in Texas.

EHV spreads through nose to nose contact, air borne droplets, contact with contaminated buckets or trailer.

Symptoms Include:
~ Fever
~ Nasal discharge
~ Lethargy
~ Hind end weakness or wobbliness
~ Loss of tail tone or urine dribbling

Cases of EHV can progress to the neurological form, EHM. Take temperatures twice daily and monitor closely. Practice good biosecurity protocols.

We reccomend not sharing tack, buckets etc, disinfect with bleach and most importantly do not move horses on or off the property that have been in contact or may show clinical signs.

As winter approaches and we roll out the round bales please do not forget to booster the botulism vaccine. Botulism may be commonly associated with round bales, but can develop from any source of rotting vegetation. Please remember to practice good hygiene and clean old hay around feeders.
