Imagine trading the relentless buzz of smartphone notifications and the pressure of a curated digital life for the grounding rhythm of dawn chores on a sweeping 418-acre farm in Vershire, Vermont. At The Mountain School of Milton Academy, high school juniors are doing exactly that—stepping into a rare, screen free sanctuary where real-world community entirely replaces social media. After the admissions fees are paid, students trade their screens for work gloves, taking on the rigorous, humbling tasks of milking dairy cows, harvesting crops and splitting firewood alongside a demanding college-prep curriculum. Far from a simple retreat, this immersive experience challenges teens to exchange passive scrolling for an active, deeply cooperative lifestyle, proving to an increasingly digital world that true, unforgettable connection is found face-to-face in the mud, sweat and shared triumph of keeping a working farm alive.

Attending a program like the Mountain School also looks highly impressive on a college application. Admissions officers at top-tier universities view it as a major differentiator that sets an applicant apart from thousands of standard high school profiles.
