Saint Bart! πβ¨π€
This day marked 6 weeks in the new salon! It has flown by. I have been really enjoying the space and so have my clients! Itβs interesting to see and watch everyoneβs behavior. Most dogs that I thought would be anxious have been doing better than I expected. I did love being mobile. I loved the one-on-one experience. One thing I noticed is that JUST being mobile didnβt make dogs less anxious about grooming. What helps dogs the most is socializing and training paired with positive reinforcement. Mobile put a lot of pressure on myself and even though I became very good at managing it all, it became very limiting. I had to stay on top of my time, schedule and pricing. Even though I was booked out, I would get capped. I would rather be able to charge a little less, be able to give the dogs more with an open space and service more clients without killing myself in the process. Not that you have to kill yourself being mobileβ¦. But you do have to keep your prices high and groom as much as you can to cover the cost, time and energy it takes to make mobile possible.
Whatβs great about the grooming industry is that you can fit your business to meet your personal needs. When I started mobile 5 years ago, I hated the thought of being stuck in one place all day. I enjoyed traveling around town, meeting new people and places, them opening their homes to me and treating me like family. Now that Iβm older with my own family to take care of, I LOVE the thought of being cozy in my own space, where my friends and family can come by to see me from time to time.
Whether youβre a high volume salon, low volume, one-on-one, mobile, house call, you will always find your clients that you appreciate and the clients that will appreciate you! Everyone has their own uniqueness to bring the table and none of it is wrong, as long as youβre keeping yourself and your clients safe and happy. Everyday I think about how blessed I am to have curated a safe and happy place for myself and the dogs in my care πΎ
