Educating clients is part of our job! 📕 We want to be able to help you know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it when it comes to taking care and being able to administer first aid to your horses when the need arises! 💉🩹🐴

Enjoy these pictures of some cuteness! 🐴🤩There is nothing like seeing new foals on the ground and a momma being a great mom to her new baby!

Making sure the mare and foal are both healthy and happy after delivery is an important step in ensuring the foal will thrive and mare will be able to re-breed. All colostrum is not created equal. Improper latching while nursing, or poor colostrum quality and quantity can have detrimental effects on a foal and their immune system. A thorough physical exam and quantitative measurement of IgG to determine adequate colostrum intake for a foal is always recommended! If we can help you with mare and foal care, we will be happy to assist you!

The first case of New World Screwworm has been confirmed in Texas. There is no immediate danger or threat here, but we will continue to stay up to date from the USDA on potential spread/infestation and migration over the next several months. Screwworm usually enters through wounds or openings(nose, v***a, etc) in cattle. As USDA reports, rare instances have even involved human infestation. Boots are on the ground to control and quarantine the area in Texas, currently.

Everyone, join us in welcoming Dr. Selina Boone to HVS and Middle Tennessee! Dr. Boone is a native of Brevard, North Carolina and a graduate of UT College of Veterinary Medicine 🍊 Go Vols! She and her husband are excited to make the move to Middle Tennessee and getting to work with and know each of you! Dr. Boone enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and looks forward to continuing to provide quality and compassionate care to your livestock and family pets 🐄🐎🐐🐕🐈
