Words can’t fully capture the magic of Saturday’s gathering. We’ve spent the last few days just processing everything.

We gathered at Shady Grove Road Blueberry Patch in Tuskegee, AL, to hear from Ms. Josie Gbadamosi. Josie shared her powerful journey to and with Tuskegee—the land, her farm, farming, and her life. Along the way, we heard from some remarkable women in the circle who played pivotal roles in the farm’s journey. We learned from each other as Josie asked what pulled us to join the gathering that morning.

There were moments of laughter alongside heavier, somber reflections. The cloudy, blustery, December morning seemed to rise to the occasion, matching the dynamics of the conversation. Josie shared the “ancestry” of the farm, her “inheritance” of its care, and her approach to this enormous venture as a microcosm of her philosophy for life. Two young artists captured this unforgettable morning on film for a documentary in the works.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who showed up or supported this endeavor from afar. Heading into the holiday season with our hearts full, and much to reflect on.

We have some exciting news to share!

We have been awarded an Outreach and Education grant from The United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS)!

This award supports our project titled, “Climate Smart Agriculture and Natural Resource Conservation Practices Addressing Ecosystem Paradigms Involving Watersheds, Soil Health and Biodiversity: Thriving Ecosystems Support Healthy Communities.”

Through this funding, we will be able to improve and expand our ongoing collaboration with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES), Rising Garden LLC, and Nemophily Natives Plant Nursery, who have worked together for years to build impactful programs for Alabama’s farmers and land stewards.

Our collective efforts are geared toward conservation and restoration of Alabama's natural resources, and creation of sustainable communities through attention to some key focus areas:

🌱 Improved Environmental Stewardship
🌱 On-Farm Soil Health & Water Quality Monitoring
🌱 Pollinator Habitat Creation with Native Plants
🌱 Climate-Smart Techniques for Urban Farms
🌱 Local Ecology & Ecosystem Services Education
🌱 NRCS EQIP Program Awareness & Support

We can’t wait to share more about the upcoming field days, workshops, and learning opportunities that are in the works, all made possible by this generous funding! Stay tuned for exciting updates and how you can get involved in this important work for Alabama’s future.
