Winters are hard on animals please consider over head heaters on your porches and patios and in dog kennels. Like the ones sold for outdoor restaurant areas, I have some very large outdoor kennels I put them in for my dogs if they need to be outside in the winter., I never put small pups outside except to enjoy a nice day. I always put a bail of straw unopened for them to sleep off the floor and near the heaters., Sometimes I have some extra dogs I am rehoming also and need to keep away from my dogs for health reasons and breeding reasons and need to use the outside kennels until I rehome them.
A story I would like to tell is about twenty or more years ago I went to a dog show near Disneyland. The trainers told us all the dogs were from pet shelters and they wanted to let us know the star of the show was given up because her owner said she was stupid and could not learn anything and was very miss behaved. She did acts that were spectacular and acted to every cue and was a very smart dog and the star of the show. Its not the dog its the owner, if they dont know how to teach their dog tricks and to behave. A good trainer would never say a dog cannot be trained or made to behave. They can be stars of the show. Before you give up on your dog call a trainer to train you how to train your dog if you really love your pet. Its well worth the funds.
