Meet **Buttercup** — a gentle, shy girl who’s just been waiting for the right person to see her for the sweetheart she truly is. 💛😺

Buttercup may take a little time to warm up, but once she feels comfortable, she blossoms into the most loving, affectionate companion. We truly believe she’s been holding out for that special someone who will give her the patience, kindness, and forever home she deserves.

She has lived successfully with other cats, and while her experience with dogs and children is unknown, her sweet nature makes us think she could settle into most homes with a thoughtful introduction.

If you’re looking for a tender, loyal companion who will reward your love tenfold, come meet Buttercup at the Greater Cayuga SPCA. She might just be the one you’ve been waiting for. 🐾❤️

We want to give a huge thank‑you to **Tap Root Station** for sponsoring a kennel and being such a wonderful supporter of the animals here at the Greater Cayuga SPCA! 🐾💜

Their generosity helps provide safety, comfort, and care for pets in need — and we are truly grateful to have them as part of our compassionate community.

Tap Root Station is rooted in the mission of Tap Root Fields, where sustainability and regenerative farming are at the heart of everything they do. Their practices include upcycling municipal waste into nutrient‑rich compost, carefully managing farmland to protect and enrich the soil, and encouraging biodiversity at every step of the growing process. Their commitment to nurturing the earth mirrors their kindness in helping animals thrive, too.

Thank you, Tap Root Station, for supporting our shelter and standing with us in our mission to care for the animals of GCSPCA. 💛🐶🐱

This is Lucy 💜
Lucy came into our care as a stray, because she had become old, and her owners decided they could no longer care for her.
Upon entering the shelter, Lucy presented us with a skin condition, malnutrition, poor joints/mobility, ticks, eye issues, bad teeth, lumps, and bumps. Upon further inspection, she at some point contracted Lyme and Anaplasma, both tick-borne diseases, which we are now treating her for. She is now also going to bed and waking up with a full belly of food, joint supplements, and is getting weekly baths to help her skin and coat.
Throughout all of this, Lucy has been nothing but an angel. Greeting literally everyone she meets with a smile. Yes, a SMILE. Along with a full body wiggle! Not only that, but she's proven to us that despite being born with hip dysplasia, she will run. It's awkward and brief, but man is it amazing to watch. And she loves her chew toys! Despite her nubby teeth, she will chew down on a toy until it is a nub itself. Most of all, she loves people. She craves ear rubs and will softly ask you with her paw for more when you stop. She still has so much life to live and she shows us every day.
Lucy is in need of a soft place to land in her golden years. She is the easiest dog to have around, always happy to see you, and pretty much sleeps all day! Although the circumstances were not great, we feel lucky to have been landed with Lucy, because it is truly an honor to be in her presence. She is the epitome of a positive attitude.
So, if you are interested in fostering or adopting Lucy, let us know! For now, she is our resident office dog, but we all know she should be in a loving warm home with people that will spoil her - as she deserves.
And if you would like to contribute to ongoing care for animals like Lucy, please visit our website for ways to donate. Thank you!

June is **Adopt‑A‑Cat Month** — the purrfect time to welcome a new feline friend into your home! 😻💜

Founded by the American Humane Society in 1974, this national initiative encourages people to adopt cats from shelters rather than buying from breeders. June was chosen because it’s peak **kitten season**, when countless kittens are born and many end up in shelters when their owners can’t care for them.

The goal of Adopt‑A‑Cat Month is simple but powerful:
• Reduce shelter overcrowding
• Save lives
• Highlight the joy and love that adopted cats bring to their families

Here at the Greater Cayuga SPCA, we are overflowing with incredible cats of all ages, personalities, and colors — each one waiting for a loving home to call their own.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the time. Come find your new best friend and help make room for the many kittens and cats who need us this season. 🐾

Meet Sophie, our longest‑resident cat — and one of the sweetest souls you’ll ever meet. 😻

Sophie came to us as a stray living in a barn, arriving with missing patches of fur and scabs across her body. After several rounds of treatment, we discovered the cause: a chicken allergy. With a special diet and some medication, she is now *thriving* — and looking more beautiful every day.

Sophie is a gentle, low‑key girl whose favorite activities include snuggling with her humans and napping the day away. She would be a wonderful match for a quiet, calm household that appreciates a loving companion.

She’d do best as the only cat, but with slow, proper introductions, she may do well with a respectful canine friend.

If you’re looking for a sweet, relaxed, affectionate cat who just wants a soft bed and someone to love, Sophie might be your perfect match. Come meet this special girl at the Greater Cayuga SPCA. 💜

Meet Fern — the pup who packs equal parts comedy and cuteness! 🌿🐶💙

Fern is as funny as he is adorable. One minute he’s racing around with full‑speed zoomies, and the next he’s melting into your lap for snuggles. He’s still a young guy, so he’s looking for a home where he can continue learning good manners and growing into the awesome dog we know he’s meant to be.

Fern has lived successfully with other dogs, though his experience with cats and children is unknown. With his sweet personality and playful spirit, we think he could be a great fit for the right family.

If you’re ready for a lovable, silly, snuggle‑seeking companion, come meet Fern at the Greater Cayuga SPCA! 🐾💜

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful sponsor, West & Company Diamonds, for supporting the animals here at the Greater Cayuga SPCA through our kennel sponsorship program! 💎🐾
